The Vietnam World Masters Golf Championship 2026 is an amateur tournament for golfers aged 35 and over, played across four Da Nang courses. It runs as two separate weeks: 6–12 September is sold out, but 13–19 September still has places with identical inclusions. If you want to play it this year, week two is the only door still open — and field sizes are capped.

What Exactly Is the Vietnam World Masters?

It is a club golfers’ championship, not a pro event — billed as Asia’s biggest and richest amateur week of golf, and hosted by Go Golfing together with Golfasian. Four competition rounds, one course each day, everyone playing to their own handicap.

Entry is open to male and female golfers over the age of 35 with an official handicap endorsed by a club or authorised handicap association. Golfers without a handicap are still welcome as social players — you get placed in a division with similar ability, and you can still win daily technical prizes such as nearest the pin, plus the raffle draws. You just cannot take one of the division trophies.

Over US $10,000 in prizes and lucky draws is given away at the gala presentation dinner. Distance measuring devices are permitted.

Da Nang keeps getting picked for events like this. The city also hosted the Visit Golf Vietnam Championship back in April 2026, which is part of why the region now shows up on international tournament calendars rather than just holiday itineraries.

Which Week Is Still Open, and What Does Each Day Look Like?

Week 1 (6–12 September) sold out. Week 2 runs 13–19 September 2026 with the same inclusions, same courses, same socials. Here is how week 2 actually plays out.

Two things worth noting from that schedule. The first two rounds are 12pm shotgun starts — September afternoons in Da Nang are hot and humid, so treat hydration as part of your strategy rather than an afterthought. Rounds three and four start at 7:15am, which is a completely different set of conditions on the same golf courses.

The second is Wednesday 16 September. It is a free day in the middle of the week, and how you use it is the one part of the tournament schedule entirely under your control.

How Are the Divisions Split, and Do You Need a Handicap?

You are guaranteed to play with golfers of similar age and standard each day. The field splits three ways by age, then again by handicap grade A, B and C.

• 35–55 — max handicap 30 (men), 40 (ladies)
• 56–65 — max handicap 30 (men), 40 (ladies)
• 66+ — max handicap 36 (men), 45 (ladies)

All golfers play the 72-hole single Stableford event; A-grade players are additionally eligible for the best gross. Trophies go to first, second and third in each age and handicap division, decided on aggregate Stableford points across the four rounds. You can only win one trophy.

No official handicap? You can still enter as a social player and be placed in a division by ability. You will not be in the trophy hunt, but daily technical prizes and the raffle draws are open to you — and realistically, for a lot of first-timers that is the right way to do this event.

What Are the Four Tournament Courses Like?

This is a strong four-course rotation — not a case of one marquee layout plus three fillers.

Hoiana Shores opens the week. It is the first Robert Trent Jones II design in Vietnam, running through dunes along the coast about 45 minutes south of Da Nang airport and 8km from Hoi An old town. Lanterns instead of flags top the pins. A 12pm shotgun here in September means wind and heat together, and it is the most exposed of the four.

Ba Na Hills Golf Club follows — the first Luke Donald design anywhere in the world, laid out through valleys at the foot of the mountains about 25 minutes inland. One thing to be clear about: the golf course is at the foot of the mountain, so it is hot, not cool. The cable car and Golden Bridge that non-golfers visit are at the summit, and that is a different place with the same name.

Montgomerie Links hosts round three at 7:15am — a 7,090-yard par 72 minutes from Da Nang city, links-style in design and framed by casuarina trees in practice. Early tee times here are the pick of the week for scoring conditions.

Legend Da Nang — Norman Course closes it out, and it is the right choice for a final round. Opened 2010, coastal dunes, generous fairways and sculpted bunkering, with a genuine links feel. Four different design philosophies in four days is what makes this field come back.

What Does It Cost and What Is Included?

How Do You Use the Free Wednesday and the Days Either Side?

Wednesday 16 September is listed as optional golf and tours, and most people underuse it. You have flown a long way for four rounds; a fifth round on a course that is not in the rotation is the cheapest way to get more out of the trip.

Da Nang has courses the tournament does not touch — Vinpearl Nam Hoi An, Laguna Lang Co up towards Hue, the Nicklaus Course at Legend. Is September a Good Time to Play Da Nang?

It is the shoulder of the year, and worth understanding before you book flights. September sits at the tail of the hot dry season and the start of the wetter months — expect heat and humidity in the afternoons, with a real chance of rain later in the month.

That is exactly why those 12pm shotgun starts on the Monday and Tuesday matter. Rounds three and four at 7:15am are the comfortable ones. Pack accordingly: more shirts than you think, and something for a downpour that passes in twenty minutes.

On rain policy, be realistic. Heavy rain or lightning suspends play and rounds resume once it clears; only a genuinely flooded, closed course changes the day. That is standard across Vietnamese courses and the tournament committee, not us, makes the call.
