Hue & Lang Co Golf Courses: Complete Travel Guide

Hue had one championship course for over a decade. Since September 2024 it has two, and the second sits on real sand dunes. That changes what the northern end of a Central Vietnam golf trip can look like.

Why add Hue and Lang Co to a Central Vietnam golf trip?

Because it buys you two things Da Nang cannot. The first is a different kind of golf: Laguna runs through lagoon, paddy fields and hillside, and Golden Sands plays across genuine dunes with the East Sea doing most of the defending. Neither is a resort-strip layout.

The second is Hue itself. The Imperial City and the tombs along the Perfume River are UNESCO World Heritage, and they sit within half an hour of the golf. GoGolfVietnam is a golf tour operator based in Da Nang, and the groups who add this leg are usually the ones travelling with a partner who does not play, or golfers who have already done the Da Nang courses on a previous trip.

The honest counterweight: it costs you driving. Everything here is 1 to 2 hours further north than the Da Nang cluster, so it works as an add-on of two or three days rather than a base for a whole week.

Which courses can you play near Hue?

Two, and they are not variations on the same idea.

Laguna Golf Lang Co is the established one. Faldo routed it in 2013 through a valley between the mountains and the beach, and it is the more forgiving of the two: moderate difficulty, roughly 6,958 yards off the back, with the variety coming from terrain rather than length. Golden Sands Golf Resort is the new one, and the bigger test. Nicklaus Design drew it, Jim Wagner shaped it, and it opened on 28 September 2024 at Vinh Thanh, Phu Vang. The back nine crosses real dunes with sea views; the front nine was raised out of low-lying flats and plays flatter. At about 7,445 yards it is the longest card in Central Vietnam, and the wind is the defence. Mid and low handicappers get the most out of it.

Neither course has floodlights, so both are daytime golf only. Caddie and a shared buggy are included at both.

How long are the drives?

This is the part that decides your itinerary, so it is worth getting straight before you pick a hotel.

Times are door-to-door estimates from our transfers, not best-case traffic.

The pattern our team works to: if you play both courses, stay one night somewhere north rather than driving back to Da Nang twice. Two return trips over the Hai Van tunnel in two days is about five hours in a van that you could have spent on the course or in the Imperial City.

Should you stay in Hue, Lang Co or Da Nang?

Depends what the trip is for.

Lang Co if golf is the point. The Laguna resort is on the property, so the walk from room to first tee is minutes and Golden Sands stays inside an hour and a half. This is the choice for a two-round, two-night add-on, and the stay and play package at Laguna is built around exactly that shape.

Hue city if the heritage matters as much as the golf. You are 30 minutes from Golden Sands, walking distance from the Imperial City, and the food scene is the strongest in Central Vietnam. The trade-off is an hour each way to Laguna.

Da Nang if this leg is a day trip inside a longer Da Nang trip. It works for Laguna. It is a stretch for Golden Sands at about 80 km, and you will lose most of the day to the road. Groups coming from the other direction usually start further south, where the four courses within reach of Hoi An sit inside 30 minutes of the Ancient Town.

What does a two, three or five day trip look like?

Two days, two rounds. Drive up from Da Nang in the morning, play Laguna in the afternoon, stay at Lang Co. Next day, Golden Sands, then either back to Da Nang or on into Hue for the night. This is the version most groups take.

Three days. Same two rounds, but with a full day in Hue between them for the Imperial City and the royal tombs. Non-golfing partners get a real day out instead of a hotel afternoon, and nobody plays 36 holes in 48 hours.

Five days and up. At this length the Hue leg stops being an add-on and becomes half the trip: two rounds up north, two or three back around Da Nang, and the drive north gets absorbed into the schedule instead of eating a day. Who is this destination best for?

Golfers on a repeat visit. If you have already played Hoiana, Ba Na Hills and the Legend courses, this is where the region still has something new.

Low and mid handicappers who want a real wind test. Golden Sands at 7,445 yards in an onshore breeze is the hardest walk in Central Vietnam. High handicappers will enjoy Laguna far more.

Couples and mixed groups. Hue is the one place on this coast where the non-golf half of the trip is genuinely world class rather than a beach and a shopping street.

Less suited to: short three-day trips where every hour in a van is an hour not playing, and to groups who want floodlit evening golf, which neither course offers.

What should you budget?

Laguna publishes weekday green fees in the USD 120–150 band and weekends at USD 150–180, caddie and shared buggy included, as listed on its course page on this site in August 2026. Golden Sands does not publish a standing visitor rate the same way, so we quote it per trip against the course rather than print a figure that goes stale.

Beyond green fees, budget for the transfers: this leg involves more road time than a Da Nang-only trip, and a private vehicle for two courses over two days is the single biggest add-on. Rounds, transfers and hotel nights get quoted as one number when we build the itinerary.

Can you combine it with Hoi An and Da Nang?

Yes, and most groups do. Hoi An sits about 30 minutes south of Da Nang and Lang Co about 75 minutes north, so a week can run south to north without doubling back. Play the Hoi An belt first while your swing is fresh, then finish with Laguna and Golden Sands.
