Golf in Hanoi during Tet is a different trip from Tet anywhere else in Vietnam. The capital is where the Lunar New Year is kept most traditionally, and it is the only one of the big golf cities where the holiday lands in cold, damp weather. Both change how you plan the week: which days you play, what time you tee off, and what the rest of your group does while you are out.
Quick Answer
Tet 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February. Most courses around Hanoi take rounds over the holiday, but some close on New Year’s Eve and the first day, and each club confirms its 2027 schedule in January. Early-February mornings are cool and misty, so book 9–10am starts. Hanoi is quiet and beautiful for the first three days; arrive before 3 February or after 10 February for a normal city.
Tet 2027 in one paragraph
The first day of the Year of the Goat is Saturday 6 February 2027, which makes Friday 5 February the last day of the old lunar year and the night of the countdown. In September 2026 the Ministry of Home Affairs submitted a seven-day public holiday from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February; the Government still has to approve it, and final dates are normally confirmed before the end of the year. For how Tet works across the country and what shuts outside the golf club, start with our Vietnam-wide Tet 2027 guide; this page covers the northern side only.
Which Hanoi courses open over Tet?
Clubs around Hanoi do not publish their Tet calendar until a few weeks before the holiday, usually in January. What we can show you now is what each one did in previous years, where the club or the press put it in writing. Where nothing was published, we say so rather than guess.
| Course | Tet policy (previous years) | Holiday rate | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chi Linh Star | Closed on New Year’s Eve day and the first day of Tet in both 2024 and 2025; reopened on day 2 | Weekend rate applied on the days either side of the closure | Club notices, Tet 2024 and Tet 2025 (chilinhgolf.com) |
| BRG Kings Island | Taking rounds from day 1 to day 5 of Tet 2026, when BRG ran a prize draw for golfers at its courses | Not published | BRG Tet 2026 programme, reported by Giáo dục Việt Nam, February 2026 |
| BRG Legend Hill | Same BRG programme as Kings Island, day 1 to day 5 of Tet 2026 | Not published | As above |
| Long Bien | Publishes its own Tet open/close notice each year; weekend-and-holiday booking rules apply | Holiday rules match weekend rules; rate confirmed in January | Club notice for Tet 2022 and club rules (longbiengolf.vn) |
| Sky Lake | Not published — confirmed in January | Not published | We confirm with the club in January |
| Heron Lake | Not published — confirmed in January | Not published | We confirm with the club in January |
| Van Tri | Not published — confirmed in January | Not published | We confirm with the club in January |
Two patterns come out of this. First, the closure to plan around is the turn of the year itself: where a northern club has closed in recent years, it was for New Year’s Eve day and the first day of Tet, which in 2027 means Friday 5 and Saturday 6 February. Second, from the second day of Tet the tee sheets fill with Vietnamese golfers on their longest break of the year, so the problem is getting a time, not finding an open course. Everything in this table is based on previous years; the 2027 schedule is confirmed in January, and we update this page when the clubs publish.
Why a Tet round in Hanoi starts later than in Da Nang
In Da Nang, early February is close to the best golf weather of the year, and a 6:30am tee time is a pleasure. Hanoi in the same week is still coming out of winter. February averages 15–21°C by day, the coldest mornings of the season are 10–15°C, and the fine drizzle northerners call mưa phùn hangs in the air for days at a time. On the Red River plain that damp air turns to mist at dawn, and in December and January fog can hold the first groups back by 30 to 90 minutes. The first week of February can still behave that way.
So we book Tet rounds in Hanoi for 9–10am, not first light. By then the mist has usually lifted, the greens have lost their dew, and you are not standing on the first tee in three layers waiting for a starter who cannot see the fairway. There is a second reason too: over the holiday the caddie roster is thinner than usual, and a later start gives the club room to fit groups in. For the full month-by-month picture, see how February compares with the rest of the Hanoi golf year.
Pack for it. A light windproof layer, a warm hat for the first nine and a change of socks cover most Tet mornings; by the back nine you are usually down to a polo shirt.
Rates, caddies and cancellation over the holiday
No Hanoi club has published a Tet 2027 green fee yet, and we will not quote a surcharge that does not exist on paper. What the published rules do show is how holiday days are treated, and Long Bien, the only course inside the city, is the clearest example. Its club rules put public holidays in the same bracket as weekends:
- Cancellation: at least 120 hours (five days) notice for weekends and public holidays, against 48 hours on a normal weekday.
- Group size: three or four players per group; a pair has to join others or wait for a slot.
- No nine-hole bookings on weekends and public holidays.
- Caddie and buggy are compulsory for every player, every day.
Read that across to the rest of the week and you get a workable rule: treat every day from 4 to 10 February as a weekend. Chi Linh Star did exactly that in 2024 and 2025, charging its weekend rate on the days around the closure. On a normal Hanoi rate card, weekends run roughly 70% above weekdays, so a group that can shift one or two rounds to 11 February or later saves real money.
The five-day cancellation window also matters more than it looks. If your flight moves or someone falls ill during the holiday, you lose the round unless you give notice well ahead, so build a little slack into the plan and do not stack a round on your arrival day.
Hanoi over Tet for the non-golfing half
This is the best reason to come at Tet at all. In the fortnight before the holiday, Hang Ma street in the Old Quarter turns red and gold with lanterns and paper decorations, and the Hang Luoc flower market fills with peach blossom, the northern Tet flower, and kumquat trees being strapped onto motorbikes. On New Year’s Eve families crowd Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake to make the first prayer of the year, and for Tet 2026 the city set off fireworks at 33 sites at midnight, with Hoan Kiem the centre of it.
Then the city goes quiet. The first three mornings are the calmest Hanoi gets all year: little traffic, shuttered shopfronts, families in their best clothes heading to pagodas. Craft villages such as Bat Trang run on family time over the holiday, so check before heading out in the first days; they are easier at the end of the week. Hotel restaurants keep trading throughout.
If one of you is not playing, we have written a day-by-day plan for the partner who stays in the city; over Tet, swap its market and street-food mornings for the flower markets before the holiday and the temples after it.
Two ways to plan a February golf week
There are two sensible ways to handle Tet from Hanoi: build the trip around it, or step neatly past it. Both use the same courses; what changes is the dates.
| Embrace Tet | Avoid Tet | |
|---|---|---|
| Arrive | Wednesday 3 February | Monday 15 February or later |
| Round 1 | Thursday 4 February, before the clubs close for the turn of the year | Tuesday 16 February |
| 5–6 February | No golf: flower markets, Ngoc Son Temple at midnight, a silent first morning | — |
| Rounds 2 and 3 | Sunday 7 and Monday 8 February, days 2 and 3 of Tet | Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 February |
| Fly home | Tuesday 9 February | Friday 19 February |
| Rates | Weekend-level on all three rounds | Weekday rates |
| City | Festive, then very quiet | Back to normal |
The Avoid plan is exactly our five-day Hanoi package with Kings Island, Sky Lake and Legend Hill, simply dated for the week after the holiday. The Embrace plan uses the same three courses but runs to seven days, because we deliberately leave New Year’s Eve and the first day empty. If you can only manage five days over Tet, drop round 1 and arrive on Friday 5 February.
Getting in and out of Noi Bai around Tet
Noi Bai Airport is busiest in the days just before the holiday, when people fly home, and in the last days of it, when they all fly back. Check-in queues, the road into the city and taxi availability all feel the rush. On the first day of Tet the opposite happens: the roads are empty and ride-hailing drivers are scarce.
The fix is the same either way. Book a private car for every transfer before you travel, including the ride to your first course, and avoid a connecting domestic flight inside the holiday week if you can; seats on those sell out and fares climb. BRG Legend Hill sits about 15 minutes from the terminal, which is useful on the Embrace plan’s last morning.
Booking timeline for a Tet trip
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| October–November 2026 | Choose Embrace or Avoid, book flights and hotel; rooms in central Hanoi for the holiday week go early |
| December 2026 | Government confirms the holiday dates; we pencil in tee times with each club |
| January 2027 | Clubs publish Tet schedules and rates; we confirm rounds, caddies and cars and send your final plan |
| Late January 2027 | Cancellation windows close: five days’ notice for holiday rounds at Long Bien |
| 3–10 February 2027 | Tet week; carry your confirmation and car details offline |
For groups of eight or more, or anyone set on a particular course on day 2 or 3, earlier is better: those mornings are the first to go. When you are ready, our Hanoi golf weeks that work around the holiday calendar are the starting point, and we adjust the dates to whichever plan you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are golf courses in Hanoi open during Tet 2027?›
Most take rounds over the holiday, based on previous years. Chi Linh Star closed only on New Year’s Eve day and the first day of Tet in 2024 and 2025, and BRG’s courses were open from day 1 in 2026. Each club confirms its 2027 schedule in January.
2. Is golf in Hanoi more expensive over Tet?›
Plan on it. No club has published a Tet 2027 rate, but holiday days follow weekend rules at Long Bien, and Chi Linh Star charged its weekend rate around Tet in 2024 and 2025. Weekends in Hanoi run roughly 70% above weekdays.
3. What is the weather like in Hanoi in early February?›
Cool and damp. Days average 15–21°C, the coldest mornings drop to 10–15°C, and fine drizzle is common. Morning mist can delay the first tee times, so we book 9–10am starts.
4. Is Hanoi worth visiting during Tet?›
Yes, if you want to see the holiday rather than a normal city. The flower markets, Hang Ma street and New Year’s Eve at Ngoc Son Temple are memorable, and the first three days are unusually quiet.
5. Should I avoid Hanoi during Tet for a golf trip?›
Avoid it if you want weekday rates, easy tee times and open street-food stalls. Arrive on 15 February or later and you get normal prices and the same February weather.
6. How early should I book golf in Hanoi for Tet?›
Book flights and hotel in October or November, and let us hold tee times from December. Clubs confirm Tet schedules and rates in January, and days 2 and 3 of Tet fill first.
7. Is Hanoi or Da Nang better for golf over Tet?›
Da Nang has warmer, drier weather in early February; Hanoi has the stronger Tet atmosphere and more courses. Our Vietnam-wide Tet 2027 guide covers the Da Nang side, and our Hanoi vs Da Nang comparison covers the rest of the year.
