Golf in Da Nang for Senior Golfers (2026): Cart Rules, 9-Hole Options & a Paced 7-Day Itinerary

Senior golfer teeing off on a coastal fairway in Da Nang, Vietnam

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Two questions come up in almost every enquiry we get from golfers in their sixties and seventies, and neither one is about the course design. They are: do I have to walk, and can I stop after nine holes if I have had enough?

Both have clear answers in Da Nang. A cart is compulsory at every course here, and it is already part of the green fee along with a caddie. Legend Da Nang spells it out on its published tariff in as many words — “Golf cart is compulsory for all guests” — and the same club publishes rates for 9, 18, 27 and 36 holes, so a half round is a listed option rather than a favour you have to negotiate on the first tee.

The third question — how many days — has a less obvious answer. Most visitors assume more rounds is better value. In our experience the opposite is true for this age group.

Quick Answer

You do not have to walk. A cart is compulsory at every Da Nang course and is already included in the green fee, alongside a caddie. Legend Da Nang and Montgomerie Links both publish 9-hole rates, so you can stop at the turn without upsetting the group’s plan. A seven-day trip with three rounds and two rest days suits most senior golfers better than five straight days.

Do you have to walk when you play golf in Da Nang?

No. A cart comes with every round in Da Nang. At all six courses we book — Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links, Hoiana Shores, Ba Na Hills, Laguna Golf Lang Co and Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An — riding is compulsory and the cart is already inside the green fee, together with a caddie. Walking a full round is simply not how golf is played here.

Legend Da Nang puts it on its public tariff in as many words — “Golf cart is compulsory for all guests” — with the green fee listed as inclusive of the caddie fee and a shared cart. The other clubs operate the same way. Not every rate card spells it out, but none of them will send you round on foot.

One detail worth knowing if you and your partner play at different speeds: Legend Da Nang sells exclusive use of a cart, one golfer per cart, for a surcharge of VND 390,000 over nine holes or VND 590,000 over eighteen. That is roughly USD 15 and USD 23 at September 2026 rates. Nobody has to wait in a shared cart for the other to finish a hole.

How close a cart can get to your ball varies by club and changes with the weather, so we confirm the current arrangement with each course before your group arrives.

Because the cart and the caddie are bundled into the green fee at every Da Nang course, the headline number is closer to your real cost than it looks. Our guide to why the cart and caddie are already inside the green fee breaks down what is left to pay on the day.

What does playing 9 holes instead of 18 actually cost?

Roughly 60 per cent of the 18-hole price, not half. Legend Da Nang publishes the full ladder, which makes it easy to see before you book. The figures below are the inbound visitor, weekday rates on the Nicklaus course.

Holes played Published rate (VND) Approx. USD What it includes
9 holes 2,640,000 about USD 105 Green fee, caddie, shared cart
18 holes 4,400,000 about USD 175 Green fee, caddie, shared cart
27 holes 6,600,000 about USD 260 Green fee, caddie, shared cart
36 holes 8,360,000 about USD 330 Green fee, caddie, shared cart

All fees include 20% special consumption tax, 10% VAT and a 5% service charge. A caddie reservation fee of VND 200,000 applies. USD figures are approximate conversions at September 2026 rates; the club bills in VND.

Montgomerie Links publishes a 9-hole visitor rate too — VND 2,388,000 on a weekday against VND 3,980,000 for the full round, on the card effective 1 January 2026. Of the six Da Nang-area courses GoGolfVietnam books most often, these two are the only ones publishing a 9-hole price, which is why they tend to anchor the itineraries we build for older groups.

The practical value of a published half-round rate is not the saving. It is that stopping at the turn becomes a normal, priced choice instead of an awkward conversation.

Why does a seven-day trip work better than a five-day one?

Look at how the long-haul operators pace this market. PerryGolf’s Vietnam Unveiled 2026 itinerary runs fourteen days and thirteen nights but schedules only six rounds, with two full days carrying no golf at all — a spa day and a half-day walk through Hoi An. Every round is played with a cart and a caddie.

That is a ratio of roughly one round every two days. It is not a budget decision; it is what keeps a two-week trip enjoyable to the end. Compress the same six rounds into six days and the last two become something to survive.

Our team has found the same thing on a shorter scale. Groups who book three rounds across seven days almost always play better on the third round than groups who book five rounds in five days play on their fourth. If that pattern appeals, the starting point is a trip planned around rest days, not back-to-back rounds.

The paced seven-day itinerary

This is the shape we suggest most often. Golf falls on days 2, 4 and 6, so there is never a morning where you wake up having played the day before.

Day Plan
1 Arrive in Da Nang, check in, settle. No golf.
2 Round 1 — early morning tee time
3 Rest day: spa, beach or the resort
4 Round 2
5 Culture day: Hoi An old town, half a day, outside the hottest hours
6 Round 3 — drop to nine holes if you would rather
7 Depart

Day 6 is the one that matters. Because Legend Da Nang and Montgomerie Links both price nine holes, that final round can shrink on the morning itself without anyone rewriting the schedule. The seven-day version with a spare day built in follows this rhythm with transfers and tee times already arranged.

Short on time? The five-day version

Plenty of golfers fly in from Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul or Singapore for a long weekend rather than a fortnight. Five days still works, as long as you keep the rest day.

Day Plan
1 Arrive, check in. No golf.
2 Round 1 — early tee time
3 Rest day: beach, Hoi An, or nothing at all
4 Round 2 — nine or eighteen, decided that morning
5 Depart

Two rounds in five days sounds thin. It is not, once you count the travel days honestly: day 1 and day 5 are mostly airports.

When should you tee off to stay ahead of the heat?

Early. First light on the tee sheet is the single easiest change to make, and it costs nothing. Da Nang’s dry season runs April to September, with May and June the hottest stretch, so an early tee time matters most in those months. From October to March conditions are far more comfortable — and that is also the region’s busy season, which means tee times go early and need booking well ahead rather than being easy to pick up.

If you have any medical condition, check with your doctor before travelling. Beyond that, the scheduling advice is simple: play in the morning, keep the afternoon free. Our guide to which months keep the morning heat manageable goes through the season month by month.

What if one of you does not play?

Common in this group, and easy to build around. The rest days in both itineraries above already assume two people with different plans. Hoi An’s old town, the beach strip and the resort spas all sit within a short drive of the courses, so the non-golfer is not stranded at a clubhouse for five hours.

Legend Da Nang even publishes a spectator rate for someone who wants to ride along without playing. Our guide to planning the non-golf half of the trip covers what actually fills those days.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to walk when playing golf in Da Nang?
›

No. A cart is compulsory at every Da Nang golf course and is already included in the green fee, along with a caddie. Legend Da Nang states this in writing on its published tariff, and the other clubs apply the same rule.

2. Can I play only 9 holes in Da Nang?
›

Yes at two clubs we book regularly. Legend Da Nang publishes rates for 9, 18, 27 and 36 holes, and Montgomerie Links publishes a 9-hole visitor rate. Hoiana Shores lists 18-hole rates only, so a half round there has to be confirmed with the club.

3. Is 5 days enough for a golf trip to Da Nang?
›

It is enough for two rounds with a rest day between them, which suits golfers flying in from within Asia. Seven days gives you three rounds and two rest days, and that is the pattern most of our older groups prefer.

4. Do Da Nang courses provide caddies?
›

Yes. Caddies are standard in Vietnam and are included in the published green fee at Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links and Hoiana Shores. Legend Da Nang also charges a caddie reservation fee of VND 200,000 for visitors.

5. Can two people share a cart?
›

Sharing is the default — the published green fee covers a shared cart. If you would rather have one cart each, Legend Da Nang charges a surcharge of VND 390,000 for nine holes or VND 590,000 for eighteen, and Montgomerie Links also offers a private cart for a surcharge.

6. What is the best time of day to tee off in Da Nang?
›

Early morning, particularly between April and September when Da Nang is at its hottest. From October to March the weather is more comfortable, but it is also the busiest season, so early tee times need to be reserved further ahead.

7. Which Da Nang course suits a relaxed pace best?
›

Legend Da Nang is the most flexible on paper, because its compulsory cart policy and its published 9, 18, 27 and 36-hole rates are both set out in advance. Beyond that, the right course depends on what you want from the round rather than on your age.
