Dragon Golf Links: Vietnam’s First Seaside Course, Built on Reclaimed Ground at Do Son
Greg Norman Golf Course Design opened Dragon Golf Links in 2023 on land reclaimed from the Gulf of Tonkin at Do Son, on the peninsula that juts out south of Hai Phong city. It is marketed, accurately as far as we can verify, as Vietnam’s first true seaside course: rather than a resort layout that happens to face the water, the routing sits directly on the coast, with fairways cut through what used to be open sea.
The 27 holes are built as three separate 9-hole nines that pair up into different 18-hole combinations, the same format used at a handful of newer courses further inland. That structure is why the yardage on a scorecard varies: one published combination runs about 7,005 yards, another closer to 7,224 yards, and the three nines together add up to roughly 10,600 yards. We list the range rather than a single number because, unlike an 18-hole course, there genuinely isn’t one fixed yardage here, it depends on which two nines the pro shop pairs for your round that day.
What sets the course apart is the wind, not the elevation. There is very little natural cover across the reclaimed land, so the sea breeze off the Gulf of Tonkin is a constant factor rather than an occasional one, and it tends to pick up through the afternoon. That makes club selection genuinely harder to call than the number on the card would suggest, and players used to sheltered inland courses should expect a few more re-teed shots than usual on the exposed holes.
Dragon Golf Links is currently the only Hai Phong course we list, alongside FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club on the Ha Long side of the region. The two are a useful pair precisely because they play so differently: FLC climbs and drops through hillside terrain above the bay, while Dragon Golf Links stays flat and lets the wind do the work. The clubhouse has a restaurant, a driving range, and a pro shop, and caddie plus cart are included in the green fee, standard for courses of this scale in northern Vietnam.
