Long Bien Golf Course: The Closest 27 Holes to Central Hanoi

Long Bien Golf Course sits in Phuc Dong Ward, Long Bien District, on the east bank of the Red River and roughly 20 to 30 minutes by taxi from the Old Quarter. Of the Hanoi courses we cover, it is by some margin the easiest to reach from the city centre.

Three Nines, Any Two Make a Round

Nelson & Haworth laid out 27 holes here rather than the usual 18, split into three nine-hole loops labelled Course A, B and C. Each nine plays to par 36, so any two combined give a standard par 72 round of about 7,100 yards across the full property. Golfers who play here more than once rarely play the same eighteen twice.

The land is flat river-delta ground, so the challenge is not elevation. Deep bunkers, water carries and out-of-bounds do the work instead, which rewards accuracy over raw distance. Regulars tend to describe Course A as the longest but most forgiving, and Course C as the tightest of the three.

Facilities: A 52-Bay Range and a Chandelier in the Lobby

The clubhouse is deliberately grand — the entrance hall is fitted with a large crystal chandelier, and the drinks huts spaced around the course are unusually well appointed for Vietnam. Practice facilities run to a floodlit 52-bay driving range, and a golf academy operates on site for players who want a lesson rather than a round. A spa and restaurant complete the setup.

Floodlights cover the course itself, so night golf is genuinely available here rather than a nominal offering. For a golfer landing in Hanoi late, that turns an otherwise wasted evening into a playable nine.

One detail sets the caddie operation apart from most Vietnamese courses: the caddie team at Long Bien is all male, and each caddie carries a rangefinder. Elsewhere in Vietnam caddies are predominantly female and distances come from yardage markers, so first-time visitors usually notice the difference on the opening tee.

Worth Knowing Before You Book

Long Bien is a public course — no membership is required — and it carries roughly a thousand members, more than 60% of them foreign residents from Korea, Japan, Singapore and Europe. That accessibility is the appeal, but it comes with a trade-off worth stating plainly: weekends here get busy, and pace of play can drag. Our team books midweek mornings for guests whenever the itinerary allows.

The course also sits near a military airfield, so the occasional aircraft passes overhead. Most golfers stop noticing after a few holes.

How It Compares to the Other Hanoi Courses

Distance is the deciding factor. BRG Kings Island Golf Resort and Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club both sit 40 kilometres or more from the centre, Phoenix Golf Resort is further out again near Luong Son, and BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort is closest to Noi Bai airport rather than the city. Long Bien is the one course on this list a golfer can reach from a Hoan Kiem hotel, play, and be back for dinner — which makes it the obvious pick for business travellers and anyone with a single free morning in Hanoi.
