Noi Bai International Airport sits north of Hanoi, and so do two golf courses. That accident of geography means a morning arrival can become a same-day round, and a late flight out can still fit eighteen holes. Here is how the transfers actually work.

How far is each course from the airport and the city?

Hanoi’s courses spread across three zones: two beside the airport, one inside the city at Long Bien, and a ring of destination resorts an hour or more out. Which zone a course sits in decides which day of your trip it belongs to.

Can you play golf on arrival day?

Yes, and this is the single best trick a Hanoi golf trip has. Land at Noi Bai on a morning flight and BRG Legend Hill, the Jack Nicklaus layout 15 minutes from the terminal, is reachable before your hotel room is even ready. Van Tri is the other airport-side option and the more interesting one. It is a private estate with roughly 400 members and no walk-in tee times at any price. Departure day works the same way in reverse, but with a different course. Long Bien, 20–30 minutes from the Old Quarter with 27 holes and floodlights, is the round you play the morning before an evening flight — finish, shower at the clubhouse, and head north to Noi Bai against the traffic.

What are your transfer options?

Grab and metered taxis work fine for the city and for Long Bien. They get harder for the destination courses: a sedan fits two golfers with bags at best, return rides from Kings Island or Phoenix are not waiting in a queue, and the driver quoting the trip has usually never driven to a golf course gate. Fine for a solo golfer with a rental set; awkward for a group of four.

Hotel cars sit in between: comfortable, bookable at the front desk, and priced accordingly. They make sense for one-off rides, less so for four golf days in a row.

How should transfers shape your itinerary?

Cluster by zone. The pattern that wastes the least time in a van: airport-side golf on arrival day, the far courses back to back from a resort stay, and Long Bien held for departure morning.

The far cluster is where planning pays. Kings Island and Sky Lake sit in the same direction west of the city at 45 minutes to an hour, so playing them on consecutive days from one base beats returning to the Old Quarter in between. Phoenix at about 1 hour 30 is the one to think twice about: from the city it means a 5:30am start for a morning tee time, which is why we usually pair it with a night out that way rather than a dawn raid.

One winter note: December and January mornings can hold fog over the lakes, and courses will delay first groups until it lifts, usually 30–90 minutes. Through those months we book 9 or 10am starts instead of first light, which also takes the pressure off an arrival-day transfer.
