That number matters because it is what separates a two-day stopover from a proper golf week: you can play a different layout every day for most of a week without repeating yourself or spending your holiday in a van.

The spread is unusual too. Long Bien sits inside the city. Van Tri and BRG Legend Hill are minutes from the airport. Then a ring of destination resorts runs out through Vinh Phuc, Ha Nam and toward Hai Phong, most of them built in the last fifteen years by designers with names you will recognise.

BRG Kings Island is the anchor. Fifty-four holes on the Dong Mo reservoir, three distinct courses, and the one most visiting golfers have already heard of. Sky Lake gives you two 18s on Van Son Lake with a five-star Wyndham on site, which solves the transfer problem in a way nothing else near Hanoi does. Play, eat, sleep, play again, never get in a van.

Thanh Lanh Valley is the newest of the group, a 2021 Nick Faldo layout in the Tam Dao range where nine of the eighteen holes run along the lake and every hole has a mountain behind it. Groups who want the photograph as well as the round tend to rank it first.

Long Bien earns its place on logistics rather than drama. Twenty-seven holes, twenty to thirty minutes from the Old Quarter, floodlit, no membership needed. It is the round you play on arrival day or the morning before a late flight, and the one that saves an itinerary when traffic ruins the plan.

And Van Tri, which is the interesting one. It is a private estate with roughly 400 members and a gated compound, so there is no walk-in tee time at any price. Visitors get on by advance arrangement through a partner travel agency, which is exactly what we are. What does golf in Hanoi cost in 2026?

At the flagship end, a weekday 18 at BRG Kings Island (Lakeside) runs around 1,850,000 VND for a visitor, and the same round at the weekend runs closer to 3,200,000 VND. Both figures already include the caddie and a shared buggy, which is the part that surprises golfers arriving from markets where those are billed separately.

Now the number that actually changes what you pay: the weekday to weekend gap in Hanoi is close to double. That is a far sharper split than most Asian golf destinations, and it exists because the local member and corporate demand lands hard on Saturday and Sunday.

Which produces the single most useful piece of advice in this guide. If your dates are flexible at all, play Tuesday to Friday. A four-round trip built on weekdays instead of weekends can save the price of an extra round, and the courses are quieter, and pace of play is better. Which course suits which kind of golfer?

A twelve-course region is only useful if you know which four to pick. Here is how we actually match courses to groups.

First trip to Vietnam, mixed handicaps. Kings Island Lakeside and Long Bien. Both are forgiving enough that a 24-handicapper enjoys the day, and neither punishes a group that is still adjusting to caddies, heat and Paspalum fairways. Save the Nicklaus Kings Course for the second visit.

Low handicaps who want a test. Kings Course at Kings Island, Stone Valley for the Brian Curley shaping with its ridges and kick-slopes, and Thanh Lanh Valley where nine holes run along water. Sky Lake’s two layouts stretch past 7,500 yards from the back tees if length is the point.

Groups with non-golfers. Sky Lake, because the Wyndham sits on the property with a spa, or Tam Dao, which climbs into the mountains at a cooler elevation than the city and works as a short break in its own right.

Short on time. Long Bien, every time. Twenty-seven holes, floodlit, twenty minutes from the Old Quarter, and no membership requirement. It is the only Hanoi course you can realistically slot into a business trip.

Wanting something the group cannot book themselves. Van Tri. That is the whole appeal, and it is a genuine one.

One more worth flagging: Heron Lake, on Dam Vac Lake in Vinh Phuc, added floodlit night golf in April 2026. That changes the arithmetic of a Hanoi trip more than it sounds. An afternoon arrival can still become a round, and in the May to August heat an evening nine is far more pleasant than anything you would play at noon. Very few courses in the north offer it.

When is the best time to play golf in Hanoi?

Spring and autumn. February to April and September to November both sit in the 18 to 28°C band, dry enough, and comfortable for 18 holes without an early alarm.

The rest of the year needs explaining properly, because this is where Hanoi differs from everything golfers know about Vietnam. Northern Vietnam has four real seasons. May to August is genuinely hot and humid, the kind of heat where a midday tee time is a mistake rather than an inconvenience. December and January are cold, sometimes 10 to 15°C, which most visiting golfers do not expect from Vietnam at all.

And winter brings the detail nobody puts in a brochure: fog. Mornings in December and January can hold thick fog over the lakes and valleys well past sunrise, and courses will hold the first groups until it lifts. It usually costs you thirty to ninety minutes rather than the round. Our team simply books later starts through those two months, around 9 or 10am instead of first light, and the problem largely disappears.

This catches golfers from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines more than anyone. They pack for Da Nang and land in a Hanoi January. Bring a layer.

Getting there and getting around

You fly into Noi Bai International Airport, which sits north of the city and, conveniently, close to two of the better courses. BRG Legend Hill is about fifteen minutes from the terminal and Van Tri is 4km off the Hanoi to Noi Bai expressway, so a morning-arrival group can genuinely play on day one.

After that, distance is the thing to plan around. Long Bien is twenty to thirty minutes from the Old Quarter. Kings Island and Sky Lake are around an hour. Stone Valley is an hour and twenty. Phoenix is closer to ninety minutes each way, which means a 5:30am start if you want a morning tee time, and that is worth knowing before you agree to it rather than at breakfast.

The practical answer is to cluster: play the far courses on consecutive days from a resort stay, and keep the city-side rounds for arrival and departure days. Beyond the course

Hanoi is a better non-golf city than Da Nang, and groups with non-playing partners notice it.
