Twelve. That is how many golf courses a Hanoi trip can realistically draw on, and almost nobody quotes the same figure — booking sites say 26 or 27, Tripadvisor’s filter shows 15, one guide stops at 9. The difference is counting method, not geography. Here are all 12, zone by zone, with the numbers behind the count.

Quick Answer

Hanoi has 12 golf courses within roughly two hours of the city centre, from 27-hole Long Bien inside the city to the 54-hole BRG Kings Island flagship at Dong Mo Lake. Sources quoting 9, 15 or 26 are counting different things: whole neighbouring provinces, single resorts split into separate courses, or driving ranges. With only one day, most visiting golfers pick Kings Island or Long Bien.

The full dozen at a glance. Where a figure has no reliable source, the cell stays blank rather than guessed.

Course Area Holes Designer From central Hanoi Note
Long Bien Golf Course In the city 27 Nelson & Haworth 20–30 min In town, floodlit night play
Van Tri Golf Club Airport side 18 Peter Rousseau ~30 min Private — book via agency
BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort Airport side (Soc Son) 18 Nicklaus Design ~40 min Twin greens on every hole
BRG Kings Island Golf Resort West (Dong Mo Lake) 54 Nicklaus Design / McFarland 45–60 min 54 holes, the flagship
Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort Vinh Phuc (Dam Vac Lake) 18 ~45 min Floodlit since April 2026
Dai Lai Star Golf & Country Club Vinh Phuc (Dai Lai Lake) 27 ~60 min Quiet lakeside 27
Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club West (Chuong My) 36 ~60 min Sky course past 7,500 yards
Tam Dao Golf Resort Vinh Phuc foothills 18 IMG ~60 min (49 km) Mountain backdrop
Thanh Lanh Valley Golf Resort Vinh Phuc 18 Nick Faldo ~60 km Newest, opened 2021
Stone Valley Golf Resort Ha Nam (south) 27 Brian Curley ~80 min Limestone karst scenery
Phoenix Golf Resort Hoa Binh 54 Ronald Fream ~90 min 5:30am summer starts
Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club Hai Duong (toward Hai Phong) 27 Valley course, Hai Phong side

Why does every source count Hanoi’s golf courses differently?

Because nobody agrees on three counting decisions, and most lists never say which ones they made. Decision one is geography: stretch the net across every northern province and you can reach 26 or 27, the totals big booking directories quote. Pull it in to Hanoi’s administrative border alone and you drop to a handful, which is where the low counts of 9 or 10 come from.

Decision two is what counts as one course. BRG Kings Island holds 54 holes across three named layouts; count each layout separately, as Tripadvisor’s listings tend to, and the total inflates fast. Decision three is whether private clubs and standalone driving ranges make the list at all; keep the ranges and drop nothing else, and you can push any total a few digits higher without adding a single course worth flying for.

Our answer to all three: count every course a visiting golfer can genuinely put on a Hanoi itinerary, treat one property as one entry, and skip ranges. That produces 12. GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator, builds its Hanoi trips from exactly this list, and ten of the twelve sit within about 90 minutes of the Old Quarter.

The count does not sit still, either. Northern Vietnam keeps building: Thanh Lanh Valley only joined the list in 2021, and Heron Lake only joined the night-golf column in April 2026. When a new layout earns a place on a realistic itinerary, this page gets recounted rather than quietly rounded up.

Which course can you play inside Hanoi itself?

Exactly one, and it suits golfers with meetings, families in tow, or a spare evening in the Old Quarter.

1. Long Bien Golf Course

It lays 27 holes inside Long Bien district, 20–30 minutes from the Old Quarter depending on bridge traffic. The Nelson & Haworth routing runs flat between lakes and mature trees, and the entire course is floodlit, so a round can start after dinner. Our team treats it as Hanoi’s utility course: arrival-day golf, night golf and a last-morning nine before an afternoon flight all land here.

What can you play beside Noi Bai Airport?

Two courses, and they own the first and last days of a trip.

2. Van Tri Golf Club

This is Hanoi’s private club: an 18-hole Peter Rousseau design about 30 minutes from the centre and 4 km off the airport expressway. Membership sits around 400 and there is no public booking desk, so the conditioning stays tournament-tight and the tee sheet stays empty. Visitors do get on, but only through operator arrangements made as part of a wider itinerary.

3. BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort

The resort sits in Soc Son, roughly 15 minutes from the Noi Bai terminal and 40 from the city. The Nicklaus Design layout runs a twin-green concept: two greens on every hole, so the course quietly rotates its own routing between visits. Landing at noon and teeing off by 2pm is a realistic plan here, which no other course on this list offers.

Which courses fill the western ring and Vinh Phuc?

Six of the twelve, and they are the main body of Hanoi golf. This zone suits the middle days of a trip, ideally played from a resort base rather than day-tripped one by one.

4. BRG Kings Island Golf Resort

The Dong Mo Lake property is the volume leader: 54 holes across three layouts, 45–60 minutes west of the city. In our experience it is the round repeat visitors anchor a Hanoi trip around, and a 36-hole day with lunch between nines is standard practice for visiting groups.

5. Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club

Down in Chuong My, this one runs 36 holes about an hour southwest, with the Sky course stretching past 7,500 yards from the tips. It is the test low handicappers circle first, and the on-site Wyndham hotel makes it the easiest overnight golf stop in the zone.

6. Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort

It plays 18 holes along Dam Vac Lake in Vinh Phuc, about 45 minutes out. In April 2026 it switched on floodlights, becoming the only night-golf option outside the city itself. The lakeside setting, not length, is the point of the round. GoGolfVietnam schedules night rounds at just two of the twelve Hanoi courses: Long Bien in the city and, since April 2026, Heron Lake.

7. Dai Lai Star Golf & Country Club

It spreads 27 holes beside Dai Lai Lake, about an hour from the centre. In our experience it draws lighter weekend traffic than the BRG properties, which makes it the fallback our team reaches for when Saturday tee sheets fill.

8. Tam Dao Golf Resort

This one puts an IMG-designed 18 at the foot of the Tam Dao range, 49 km from Hanoi. The mountain wall behind the back nine is the reason golfers photograph this course more than they score on it, and it pairs naturally with an overnight in Tam Dao hill town.

9. Thanh Lanh Valley Golf Resort

The newest of the twelve: a Nick Faldo design opened in 2021, about 60 km out in Vinh Phuc. Conditioning still has that new-course tightness, and it gives the zone a modern design counterpoint to the older lakeside layouts.

What lies further out?

Three courses, best suited to second visits, long stays or golfers with a reason to head that direction anyway.

10. Stone Valley Golf Resort

It stacks 27 Brian Curley-designed holes among the limestone karsts of Ha Nam, about 80 minutes south. It is the most photogenic terrain in northern Vietnamese golf, and the drive doubles as the route toward Ninh Binh’s sights.

11. Phoenix Golf Resort

Out in Hoa Binh it carries 54 holes, roughly 90 minutes out, and opens its summer tee sheet from 5:30am. That start time exists for a reason: golfers drive out early, play before the heat, and are back in Hanoi for lunch.

12. Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club

It runs 27 holes through a valley in Hai Duong, on the road toward Hai Phong. For a Hanoi-based trip it is the longest reach on the list, which is exactly why it stays quiet.

Which of the 12 can you skip?

On a first trip, three. Chi Linh sits in the wrong direction unless Hai Phong or Ha Long is already on your route. Phoenix asks 90 minutes each way for terrain Stone Valley delivers closer. And Dai Lai, pleasant as it is, overlaps with Heron Lake’s lakeside brief without the night golf.

Van Tri is a different case. It is not a course to skip but a course you cannot book yourself; it belongs on the list of things an agency unlocks rather than the list of things you cross off. If ranking rather than counting is the question you actually came with, which five of these actually deserve your tee times is the guide that argues it out.

How many of the 12 fit into a four- or five-day trip?

Four rounds is the honest ceiling, five if you tolerate back-to-back distant days. The arithmetic that works: an arrival-day round at Long Bien or Legend Hill, two middle days in the western ring from a single base (Kings Island and Sky Lake pair well), then Tam Dao or Heron Lake before the flight home. GoGolfVietnam runs a five-day trip built around four different layouts on exactly this pattern.

Two scheduling facts shape everything. Weekend rates at the flagship courses run close to double the weekday price, so aim your rounds at Tuesday to Friday. And in December and January, morning fog can hold first tee times by 30–90 minutes, which is why our team books 9 or 10am starts through winter instead of first light. If you would rather hand the whole puzzle over, the ready-made Hanoi golf weeks fold tee times, transfers and hotels into one booking. A seven-day stay changes the maths entirely: six rounds become possible, Phoenix and Stone Valley earn their drives, and the western ring splits across two bases instead of one.

Comparing destinations first? We keep the same count for the eight courses around Da Nang, written to the same rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which golf course is closest to central Hanoi?

Long Bien Golf Course, 20–30 minutes from the Old Quarter, is the only course inside the city itself. Every other course on the list starts at about 30 minutes out.

2. Which Hanoi golf courses offer night golf?

Two: Long Bien, whose 27 holes are fully floodlit, and Heron Lake in Vinh Phuc, which added floodlights in April 2026. No other Hanoi course currently offers lit play.

3. Can visiting golfers play Van Tri Golf Club?

Not through public booking. Van Tri is a private club with around 400 members, and visitor access is arranged through tour operators as part of a wider Hanoi itinerary.

4. Do you need a private car to reach Hanoi’s golf courses?

For everything beyond Long Bien, effectively yes. There is no practical public transport to the courses, so organised trips run on private transfers; Long Bien is the one course a city taxi handles easily.

5. Are Hanoi green fees cheaper on weekdays?

Considerably. Weekend rates at the flagship courses run close to double the weekday price, which is why organised trips aim their rounds at Tuesday to Friday.
