Legend Hill is the course you can reach from Noi Bai faster than you can reach your hotel. It sits 10–15 minutes from the terminal, it was the first course Nicklaus Design built in Vietnam, and every one of its 18 holes has two greens. The question most golfers ask us is not whether it is good. It is what the second green actually changes.
Quick Answer
BRG Legend Hill is worth playing, especially on an arrival or departure day. It is a par-72, 7,068-yard Nicklaus Design course in Soc Son, 10–15 minutes from Noi Bai Airport, opened in August 2015. Each hole has two separate green complexes fed from one landing zone, so the same hole can finish very differently. It costs more than most Hanoi rounds.
Is BRG Legend Hill worth playing?
Yes, for most visiting golfers, and for one reason above the design: it removes a transfer day. BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort is the closest course to Noi Bai International Airport, so a morning arrival or a late departure can carry a full round instead of a wasted afternoon in traffic.
The golf holds up on its own too. Top 100 Golf Courses ranks Legend Hill #13 in Vietnam, and its twin-green layout was the first of its kind in Asia, according to Nicklaus Design. The trade-off is price. At weekday rates it is the most expensive of the four courses in the four-round week that plays Legend Hill on day four, and it is further from the Old Quarter than Long Bien.
How do twin greens actually work at Legend Hill?
Each hole has one fairway and two complete green complexes, each with its own shape, bunkering and approach. Paul Stringer of Nicklaus Design Asia Pacific describes them as “two separate green complexes playing from one primary landing zone.” You drive to the same place; the second shot is where the hole splits in two.

This is not the Japanese double-green system you may have seen in Japan or Korea. Top 100 Golf Courses makes that distinction too. In the Japanese model, two greens sit side by side, largely so one can rest while the other is used, and the approach barely changes. At Legend Hill the two targets are separate complexes, so the club, the angle and the trouble in front of you can all change.
| Standard hole | Japanese double green | Legend Hill twin green | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Greens per hole | 1 | 2, side by side | 2, separate complexes |
| Tee shot | One landing area | One landing area | One primary landing zone |
| Approach | Fixed | Near-identical to either green | Different angle, bunkering and often club |
| Why it exists | — | Turf recovery | Variety and set-ups for different abilities |
Nicklaus Design built the layout so the course can be set up in many combinations for different levels of player. Which green is in play is set by the club on the day, and your caddie will tell you on the tee. Treat the course guide as half the story: ask which green you are playing before you pick a club.
What does a round at Legend Hill feel like?
Hilly, open and strategic rather than brutal. The course is routed through the low hills of Phu Linh in Soc Son, so the round has elevation changes you do not get at the flat, lakeside courses south and west of Hanoi.

From the back tees it measures 7,068 yards to a par of 72, which is long enough to reward a good drive without making the course a slog from forward tees. The design character is classic Nicklaus: the hole shows you where the safe side is, and the reward comes from taking on the other side. With two green targets on every hole, reading the approach matters more than the tee shot. Caddies are compulsory and a buggy is included, which on hilly terrain is welcome.
For non-golfers in the group, Den Soc temple, dedicated to the legend of Saint Giong, is close to the resort and inspired the Legend Hill name.

Can you play Legend Hill on your arrival or departure day?
Yes, and this is where it earns its place on most itineraries. A morning landing at Noi Bai puts you on the first tee before your hotel room is ready; a late-evening flight lets you play, shower and be at the terminal in 15 minutes.
- Morning arrival: land in the morning, clear immigration, and a tee time before lunch is realistic. Clubs travel with you in the van.
- Evening departure: check out, play an early-afternoon round, shower at the clubhouse and head straight to the airport.
- Late-night departure: Legend Hill is floodlit on all 18 holes, so an evening round is possible; lit nights and tee times are confirmed when booking.
GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator, normally places Legend Hill on the first or last day of a Hanoi trip for exactly this reason: a round at a course 10–15 minutes from Noi Bai costs almost no extra driving. How it compares with Van Tri, the other airport-side course, is covered in the transfer from the terminal to each course.
Who should skip Legend Hill?
Golfers on a tight budget, and anyone based in the Old Quarter who only has a spare half day. For them, the price and the 40-minute drive do not add up.
If you are staying in the city centre and want one quick round, Long Bien is 20–30 minutes away and cheaper. If you are chasing the most dramatic lake scenery in the north, the long drive west to Kings Island is the better use of a full day. And if you dislike uncertainty on the course, the twin greens can frustrate: the hole you remember from a yardage guide may not be the hole set up that morning. In our experience, the golfers who enjoy Legend Hill most are the ones who like to think their way around a course. You can see how it sits alongside the city and western courses in itineraries that open or close a Hanoi week at Legend Hill.
What are the best tips for playing Legend Hill?
- Ask which green is in play before every approach. Your caddie knows; the scorecard or course guide may not show it.
- Book early for weekends. Hanoi’s member and corporate play fills Saturday and Sunday tee sheets first.
- Take the forward tee if in doubt. The hills add effective length, and twin greens reward accuracy more than power.
- Pack for the season. From December to February bring a layer and expect later morning starts if there is fog.
- Keep your clubs with you on arrival day. Ask us to route the van straight from arrivals to the course.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is BRG Legend Hill worth playing?›
Yes, especially on an arrival or departure day. It is ranked #13 in Vietnam by Top 100 Golf Courses, sits 10–15 minutes from Noi Bai Airport and has a twin-green design found nowhere else in the country. It is pricier than most Hanoi courses.
2. What are twin greens at Legend Hill?›
Every hole has two separate green complexes played from one landing zone, 36 greens in total. Unlike Japanese double greens, the two targets are different complexes, so the approach, angle and hazards change depending on which green is in play.
3. How far is Legend Hill from Noi Bai Airport?›
About 10–15 minutes by car, which makes it the closest course to the airport. From the Old Quarter in central Hanoi it is about 40 minutes.
4. Can I play Legend Hill on my arrival day?›
Yes, with a morning landing. Land in the morning and a tee time before lunch is realistic, with your clubs going straight from arrivals to the course before hotel check-in.
5. Is Legend Hill a Jack Nicklaus course?›
It was designed by Nicklaus Design and opened on 9 August 2015 as the firm’s first course in Vietnam. It is also the first course in Asia built with twin greens.
6. Is Legend Hill hard for high handicappers?›
It is manageable from the forward tees. The course was designed so it can be set up for different levels of player, and a caddie and buggy are included. The hills and changing green targets reward accuracy more than length.
7. Can you play Legend Hill at night?›
Yes. All 18 holes have floodlights, which have been in use since October 2015. Lit nights and the last tee time vary, so we confirm them when booking.
