A Phu Quoc golf trip from Hong Kong is the rare long weekend that needs no visa paperwork at all. The direct flight takes under three hours, arrivals on it get 30 days visa-free, and the island’s two 18-hole courses are both within an hour of the airport.
Quick Answer
Hong Kong to Phu Quoc is about 2 hours 50 minutes non-stop, with three airlines and up to four departures a day. Flying direct gives 30 days visa-free entry. Phu Quoc has two 18-hole courses, Vinpearl Golf and Eschuri Vung Bau, so a three-day weekend fits two rounds. The driest months are December to March.
Which airlines fly Hong Kong to Phu Quoc direct?
HK Express, Sun PhuQuoc Airways and VietJet all fly the route non-stop in about 2 hours 45 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes. Phu Quoc runs one hour behind Hong Kong.
| Airline | Departs HKG | Lands PQC (local) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| HK Express | Daily 7:55am and 4:10pm | About 9:45am / 6:00pm | Golf on arrival day (morning flight) |
| Sun PhuQuoc Airways | Daily 4:45pm; extra 9:00pm Thu and Sun | About 6:35pm / late night | Full service and the easiest golf-bag rules |
| VietJet | Tue, Thu, Sat 4:40pm | About 6:30pm | Trips that start golf on day two |
From the late-October 2026 timetable. Sun PhuQuoc Airways launched the Hong Kong route on 22 May 2026 (Sun Group). Winter schedules can change, so confirm on the airline’s website before booking.
Phu Quoc International is a small airport and arrival formalities are quick. Eschuri Vung Bau is about 40 minutes by car; Vinpearl Golf, up in the north near Bai Dai, is around 45 to 50 minutes.
Do Hong Kong travellers need a visa for Phu Quoc?
No, if you fly direct. International arrivals at Phu Quoc are granted 30 days visa-free, with nothing to apply for in advance. It is the one place in Vietnam where that works.
- Qualifies: a direct flight from Hong Kong, or a connection that stays in the international transit area of another Vietnamese airport.
- Does not qualify: clearing immigration in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi first, then flying on domestically.
- Needs an e-visa: leaving the island for Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Hanoi during the trip.
That is the big difference from a Hanoi weekend, where Hong Kong SAR passport holders need an e-visa before departure. Rules can be updated, so check with your airline before you fly. If you would rather not deal with any of the logistics, we arrange Phu Quoc golf breaks that start the moment you clear immigration, with the car waiting outside arrivals.
The two courses: Vinpearl Golf and Eschuri Vung Bau
Phu Quoc has two 18-hole courses, and they are different enough that playing both is the whole point of the trip.
Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc opened in 2015, designed by IMG, par 72, with tree-lined fairways and an island green at the 3rd. It sits in the north of the island near the Bai Dai resorts. Read our full round report from Vinpearl Golf for hole-by-hole notes.

Eschuri Vung Bau opened all 18 holes in 2025. At 7,508 yards and par 72, it runs from forest down to the beach, and holes 14 and 15 sit right on the sand, with the 14th as the signature hole. Here is how Eschuri’s seaside stretch plays when the wind is up.

Caddie and cart arrangements differ slightly between the two clubs, and we confirm them at booking so they are spelled out in the quote. For course and hotel choices, see everything we know about golf on Phu Quoc.
Golf bags: which airline is easiest?
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is the simplest if you are bringing your own clubs. On HK Express, buy the Special Baggage allowance online before you fly.
| Airline | Golf-bag rule | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Sun PhuQuoc Airways | One set up to 23 kg free, outside your baggage allowance, on Northeast and Southeast Asia routes (not Economy Lite or some promo fares) | Book at least 24 hours before departure |
| HK Express | Buy a Special Baggage allowance, up to 20 kg | Overweight HKD 120 per kg |
| VietJet | Depends on fare type | Confirm when booking |

A three-day and four-day plan
Three days covers both courses; four days adds breathing room and a half-day on the beach or the Hon Thom cable car.
| Plan | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days, 2 nights | 7:55am flight, afternoon at Vinpearl Golf | Eschuri Vung Bau | Late checkout, afternoon flight home | — |
| 4 days, 3 nights | Morning flight, rest at the hotel | Vinpearl Golf | Eschuri Vung Bau | Free morning, fly home |
GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator based in Da Nang, usually leaves day one free for Hong Kong groups on a four-day trip, then plays the two courses back to back on days two and three. Our four-day package built around both island courses follows exactly that rhythm.
