Best Time to Play Golf in Phu Quoc (2026–2027): Month-by-Month Guide, Including January to March

Last updated: 11 October 2026

The best time to play golf in Phu Quoc is the dry season, from December to March, with January and February the pick of the year. These are the months when golfers from colder countries head for a warm island, and when the rest of Vietnam can be wet or chilly. This guide covers what each month is like for golf, how the weather plays at Vinpearl Golf and the seaside Eschuri Vung Bau, and what to know about booking around Tet 2027.

Quick answer

Play Phu Quoc from December to March. January and February are the driest months, with under 30 mm of rain and only four or five rainy days each. April is the hottest month, and May to October is the rainy season, wettest in August and September. Book early for Tet, which falls on 6 February 2027.

What are Phu Quoc’s golf seasons?

Phu Quoc sits off Vietnam’s southwest coast and has two clear seasons. Most travel sites describe the dry season as November to April; the climate records show the driest stretch is December to March.

Season Months What to expect For golf
Dry season December–March Driest and sunniest months; highs around 30–32°C Best time to play
Shoulder April and November April is the hottest month; November is drying out Good, with early tee times
Rainy season May–October Showers and storms, wettest in August and September Playable, with flexible plans

Rain figures in this guide come from Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology data for Phu Quoc (via Wikipedia, checked 11 October 2026), cross-checked against NOAA station averages for 1994–2005. They are long-term averages, not forecasts.

Month by month: what is Phu Quoc weather like for golf?

Month Avg rain (rainy days) Avg high For golfers
January 28 mm (5) 31°C Excellent: dry, sunny, cooler mornings
February 27 mm (4) 31°C Excellent; Tet 2027 on 6 February

Phu Quoc in January, February and March

These are the months most golfers ask about, as they line up with winter breaks in Asia, Australia and Europe.

Phu Quoc golf in January

January is one of the two driest months of the year, with about 28 mm of rain spread over around five days. Highs are about 31°C, and mornings are the most comfortable of the year. It is also high season, so tee times, flights and beachfront rooms go early. For most golfers, this is the ideal month.

Phu Quoc golf in February

February is just as dry, with about 27 mm of rain over around four days. The difference in 2027 is Tet: the Lunar New Year falls on Saturday 6 February, and the days either side are among the busiest of the year on the island. Golf goes on through the holiday, but book well ahead if your dates are close to Tet.

Phu Quoc golf in March

March stays dry, with about 61 mm of rain, but it is warmer, with highs of about 32°C. Take the earliest tee time you can, or consider a late round under the lights at Eschuri. The crowds thin after Tet, so March is often the easiest month of the dry season to book.

Most golfers use these months for a short trip that takes in both courses, and our Phu Quoc golf packages make that easy to arrange.

How does the weather affect each course?

Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc

Forest holes at Vinpearl Golf give shade on hot afternoons.

Vinpearl Golf, designed by IMG and opened in 2015, is a par-72 course of about 7,040 yards at Bai Dai on the north-west coast. Most holes are cut through old forest, so the tall trees give shade and shelter from the wind, which helps on hot afternoons. Its signature hole is the par-3 3rd, where the green sits almost as an island in a lake. In the dry months the course plays firm and fast. After heavy rain, expect softer fairways and less roll, so take more club into the greens.

Eschuri Vung Bau Golf Resort

Eschuri, also an IMG design led by Steven McFarlane, is a par-72 course of 7,508 yards on Vung Bau Bay, a little further up the same coast, developed by Sun Group. It opened in stages from October 2024 and has played as a full 18 holes since 2025. The back nine moves from forest into coastal dunes, and the 14th and 15th run right along the beach, so these are the holes where the sea breeze matters most. Floodlighting allows play after dark, which is useful from March, when the midday heat builds.

Can you play golf in Phu Quoc in the rainy season?

Yes. From May to October, rain usually comes as heavy showers or afternoon storms rather than all-day rain, so most rounds still go ahead. The sea is a bigger issue than the golf: rough seas can cancel boat trips and island tours, so build some flexibility into the non-golf days.

  • Play early. Mornings are usually the driest part of the day.
  • Allow for lightning. Play stops when storms come close, so leave time in the afternoon.
  • Pack for wet weather. Bring a waterproof jacket, spare gloves and a towel.
  • Look at the value. The rainy season is low season, so rooms and flights are usually cheaper.

What are the best tee times to beat the heat?

Phu Quoc is warm all year, and highs reach 32–33°C in March and April. The first tee times of the morning are the most comfortable, and in the dry season they also give you the clearest skies. In the hotter months, a twilight start or a night round at Eschuri is a good alternative. Drink plenty of water, wear a hat and use sunscreen.

Phu Quoc vs Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon: where should you golf in winter?

If you are choosing where to golf in Vietnam between December and March, the weather differs a lot from north to south.

December–March Phu Quoc Hanoi Da Nang Ho Chi Minh City
Rain Dry Mostly dry Tapering off in December and January Dry
Temperature Warm, highs 30–32°C Cold mornings (10–15°C at the coldest) in December and January Mild, low to mid 20s Hot
Golf verdict Excellent Best from February; morning fog earlier Best from February Very good

Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh City are both dry from December to March, and our guide to the golf seasons in Ho Chi Minh City shows how Saigon compares month by month. Hanoi is cold in December and January, and morning fog can delay the first tee times by 30–90 minutes; see our month-by-month guide to golf in Hanoi. Da Nang’s rainy season peaks in October and November and eases through January, so its best stretch starts in February. For a warm, dry trip from December to January, Phu Quoc is the most reliable choice in Vietnam.

When should you book for Tet 2027 and other peak weeks?

Tet, the Lunar New Year, falls on Saturday 6 February 2027. Vietnamese families travel in the days before and after, and Phu Quoc is a popular choice, so flights and rooms fill up quickly. Christmas and New Year add to the demand, and Lunar New Year holidays elsewhere in Asia fall in the same week as Tet.

  • Tet week: book two to three months ahead.
  • Christmas and New Year: book at least two months ahead.
  • The rest of the dry season: four to six weeks is usually enough.

Our four-day Phu Quoc golf package plays both courses and works well for a dry-season trip.

Our verdict

For golf, Phu Quoc is at its best from December to March, and January and February are the pick of the year. Come in March if you want quieter courses and do not mind more heat, or in November for a good-value start to the season. In the rainy months, play early and keep the plans flexible. Whenever you come, book early if your dates fall near Tet.
