We are based in Da Nang, and group weeks are the trips we run most often: a golf society of 16 from Singapore, a company of 24 with half the party not playing, a 40-player field with a prize dinner on the last night. The city suits this better than anywhere else in Vietnam. Six championship courses sit within 20 to 80 minutes of the beach hotels, three of them have hosted professional or international amateur events, and Hoi An is close enough for the dinner the whole group will remember. This guide covers how we plan a Da Nang golf group trip for 8 to 40 players: tee blocks and shotgun starts, which courses can take a big field, moving everyone and their clubs, where the group should sleep, and a timeline to work back from.
Quick answer
Up to about 16 players, book a block of consecutive tee times. From about 20, plan a shotgun start or split the field across Legend Da Nang’s two courses. Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links and Hoiana Shores are the venues that handle big groups best. For 20 or more we recommend blocking tee times four to six months ahead, hiring a coach plus a separate bag truck, and choosing the Da Nang beachfront or Hoi An for the hotel depending on where you play.
Group size decides everything
Count flights before you count people. Da Nang courses send out groups of four, so 8 players are two flights, 20 players are five, and 40 players are ten. Everything else, from the tee format to the size of the coach, follows from that number. A single flight joining a tee sheet is a different exercise altogether; our guide for solo golfers who want to join a group in Da Nang covers that end of the scale.
| Group size | Tee format | Courses that suit | Transport | Lead time (we recommend) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8–12 (2–3 flights) | Consecutive tee times, 8–10 minutes apart | Any Da Nang course | One 16-seat van, bags in the back | 6–8 weeks; 2–3 months in peak season |
| 12–20 (3–5 flights) | A block of consecutive times, first group off early | Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links, Hoiana Shores | One 29-seat coach, or two vans | 2–3 months; longer for weekends |
| 20–32 (5–8 flights) | Shotgun start, or two blocks on one course | Legend Da Nang (36 holes), Montgomerie Links, Hoiana Shores | 29- or 45-seat coach plus a bag truck | 4–6 months |
| 32–40 (8–10 flights) | Shotgun start on one course, or split across two | Legend Da Nang with Montgomerie Links as the second venue | 45-seat coach plus a bag truck | 6 months or more; hotel held at the same time |
Lead times are what we recommend from running these trips, not club rules. The peak months of February to April and September to November fill first, and a weekend shotgun in peak season is the hardest thing on this list to secure.
Consecutive tee times or a shotgun start?
A block of consecutive tee times is the simplest format and the one every course will give you. Flights go off 8 to 10 minutes apart, so a 16-player group takes about 30 minutes to get away and finishes over the same spread. Up to about 20 players this works well, and the clubs prefer it.
A shotgun start puts every flight on a different hole at the same time, so the whole field starts together and finishes together. That matters when the day ends with a prize dinner, or when 30 people need to be on one coach at a fixed time. The price is that the club has to close the course to other players for that period, so shotguns are agreed case by case. In Da Nang, the courses that have staged full-field tournaments are the ones most used to it, and we recommend planning a shotgun only from about 20 players. None of the clubs publishes a minimum field for a shotgun; we ask each one with your dates in hand.
A third option for 32 or more is to split the field across two courses at the same resort. Legend Da Nang has 36 holes, so half the group plays the Norman Course and half the Nicklaus Course, then they swap the next day.

Legend Da Nang Golf Resort, better known as BRG Da Nang, is the course we book first for a big group. It hosted the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang on the Asian Development Tour in 2022, 2023 and 2024, with a field of 144, so a 40-player society is a small day for the club. It is 20 minutes from the beachfront hotels, has two 18-hole courses and a hotel on site. Montgomerie Links is the other course that markets corporate golf days openly, and it is close enough to Legend that the two can share one coach timetable. Hoiana Shores is the pick for a group based in Hoi An, and it opened the 2026 Vietnam World Masters, the amateur event that brings fields of several hundred players to these courses every September. Ba Na Hills is a mountain day rather than a base: a spectacular round, floodlit for a late start, but 45 minutes each way.

Moving 20+ golfers and their bags
Transport is where a group trip in Da Nang goes right or wrong, and the clubs are the reason. Twenty golf bags do not fit in the luggage hold of a 29-seat coach, and a 45-seat coach is only a little better. We run a separate bag truck for any group over about 16 players; the bags travel ahead, are at the bag drop when the coach arrives, and go back to the hotel the same way. Two 16-seat vans are an alternative for 12 to 20 players, with the bags in the second van.
The airport pick-up needs the same coach and bag truck, not six taxis. Legend Da Nang and Montgomerie Links are 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, so a late-morning arrival can still make an afternoon round; Ba Na Hills and Laguna Lang Co need an early start and a full day.
Hotels for golf groups: Da Nang beach or Hoi An?
For a group, the hotel has to do three things the brochure rarely mentions: take 15 or 20 rooms on the same floors, offer a private room for the prize dinner, and have a driveway a 45-seat coach can turn in. The Da Nang beachfront along My Khe and Non Nuoc has the widest choice of large hotels that do all three, and it is 20 to 25 minutes from Legend Da Nang and Montgomerie Links. Hoi An has smaller properties and narrower streets, but it puts Hoiana Shores at 20 minutes and the Ancient Town on the doorstep for the evenings.
Our rule of thumb: if two or more of your rounds are at Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links or Ba Na Hills, stay in Da Nang. If the group is playing Hoiana Shores and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An, stay in Hoi An. Our comparison of staying in Da Nang or Hoi An for golf goes through the trade-offs for a smaller party; the same logic holds for forty.
Running a society competition
Most societies want two things: an individual prize that rewards a good week, and a team day that mixes the group up. Stableford over two or three rounds does the first, with the best two scores counting so one bad day does not end anyone’s week. A scramble or a better-ball on the last day does the second, and it is also the quickest format for a 40-player field, which helps when the prize dinner starts at seven.
We prepare the draw, the scorecards and a results board, and collect cards at the clubhouse so the dinner can start with the prizes. Set the handicap rules before anyone flies, with a cap for the Stableford and a declared handicap on the entry form. Nearest-the-pin and longest-drive markers are easy to arrange with the club in advance, and every flight has caddies, but keep your own card as well.
Sample 4-day society itinerary
This is the shape of the trip we run most often for a group of 16 to 24 based on the Da Nang beachfront. It mirrors our four-day Da Nang golf package with three rounds, scaled up to a full field; the courses can be swapped for Hoiana Shores or Ba Na Hills depending on where the group stays.
| Day | Golf | Format | Evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive Da Nang; afternoon round at Montgomerie Links (25 min) | Warm-up fourballs, no scoring | Welcome dinner on the beachfront |
| 2 | Legend Da Nang, Norman Course | Shotgun start, Stableford round 1 | Free evening; coach into town |
| 3 | Hoiana Shores | Stableford round 2 (best of two counts) | Prize dinner in Hoi An, then lantern-lit Ancient Town |
| 4 | Optional nine holes or free morning | — | Depart from Da Nang airport |

With five days, add Ba Na Hills as a mountain day with the cable car for non-players, or Laguna Lang Co for the group that wants a fourth championship course.
Add-ons for mixed groups
Company groups rarely arrive 100 per cent golfers, and partners who do not play need a plan as good as the tee sheet. Hoi An Ancient Town, the Marble Mountains, a cooking class, the My Khe beach clubs and the Ba Na Hills cable car all fit around a golf day and finish in time for the dinner. Groups who want a competitive edge can time the trip to September and enter the Vietnam World Masters Golf Championship, which is played across four of these courses. Our Da Nang golf packages built for societies and company groups can be priced with or without the non-golfer days.
Planning checklist and timeline
- 6 months out: fix the dates and the rough number. Hold the tee blocks at Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links or Hoiana Shores and the hotel rooms at the same time. Request the shotgun if you need one.
- 4 months out: confirm the courses and formats, agree the deposit, and lock the coach and bag truck.
- 3 months out: collect names, handicaps and flight details. Decide the prize structure and the dinner venue.
- 6 weeks out: final numbers to the courses and hotel. Rooming list. Any non-golfer days booked.
- 2 weeks out: the draw for day one, the scorecards, and a one-page itinerary to every player with coach times.
- 1 week out: weather check and a wet-weather alternative agreed with each course.
Groups heading north afterwards can bolt a Hanoi leg onto the same trip; we plan those the same way.
Our verdict
Da Nang is the easiest place in Vietnam to take a big golf group, because the courses that have run real tournaments are 20 minutes from the hotels that can seat the dinner. Book early, count flights before people, plan a shotgun only from about 20 players, send the bags in their own truck, and let the last night in Hoi An do the rest. Send us your group size and dates and we will come back with a tee plan and a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How far in advance should a golf group book in Da Nang?›
For 8–16 players, we recommend confirming tee times two to three months ahead. For 20 or more, or for any shotgun start, we recommend four to six months, and longer if your dates fall in the February–April or September–November peaks. Hotels for a big group should be held at the same time as the golf.
2. Which Da Nang golf course is best for a large group?›
Legend Da Nang Golf Resort is the usual first choice: 36 holes, 20 minutes from the beach hotels, and host of the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang on the Asian Development Tour from 2022 to 2024. Montgomerie Links is the other course set up for corporate days, and Hoiana Shores suits a group staying near Hoi An.
3. Can Da Nang courses do a shotgun start?›
Several Da Nang courses have staged tournaments with full fields, so a shotgun start is possible, but none of them publishes a fixed minimum group size for one. We ask each club for your dates and numbers, and we recommend planning a shotgun only from about 20 players.
4. How many golfers count as a group booking?›
Clubs treat a booking of three or more flights, about 12 players, as a group, and that is where group terms, a single invoice and a deposit usually come in. Below that you are booking consecutive tee times in the normal way.
5. Should a golf group stay in Da Nang or Hoi An?›
Stay on the Da Nang beachfront if most of your rounds are at Legend Da Nang, Montgomerie Links or Ba Na Hills, and for a wider choice of large hotels with private dining rooms. Stay near Hoi An if Hoiana Shores and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An are the main courses and the group wants the Ancient Town in the evenings.
6. Can we run a tournament with prizes in Da Nang?›
Yes. We arrange the format, scorecards, a results board and a prize dinner for society and company groups, and the courses provide the tee sheet and, where agreed, a shotgun start. Stableford for the individual prize and a scramble for the last day is the pairing most groups choose.
7. What is the best month for a golf society trip to Da Nang?›
February to May gives the driest, most settled weather, and September is the month of the Vietnam World Masters when the courses are at their best. Avoid late October and November, when the central coast gets its heaviest rain.
