Can Solo Golfers Play in Da Nang? Join-In Groups, Surcharges & How to Book

Solo golfer alone on the tee after hitting a drive over water on a Vietnam golf course

Last updated: September 2026

A guest lands in Da Nang on a Tuesday for three days of meetings, has one free morning, and wants to play. No partner, no group, no local contacts. The question we get is always the same: will a course even take a booking from one person, and what does it cost to turn up alone?

The short version is that solo play is normal here. The money question has a clear answer at one club and an honest “ask first” at the rest.

Quick Answer

Yes, solo golfers can play in Da Nang. Courses accept single bookings, and the real extra cost is the cart rather than the green fee: at Legend Da Nang (formerly BRG Da Nang Golf Resort) the published surcharge for exclusive use of a cart is 590,000 VND for 18 holes (about USD 22) on top of a green fee that already includes a caddie and a shared cart. Weekday mornings are the easiest slots to get as one player; weekends and public holidays depend on how full the tee sheet already is. Other Central Vietnam clubs do not publish a single-golfer policy, so the surcharge has to be confirmed course by course when you book.

Can you book a tee time as a single golfer in Da Nang?

Yes, and you do not need to find three other players first. The official rate card at Legend Da Nang, effective 1 December 2025, lists green fees for an inbound visitor without any minimum-player condition attached: 4,400,000 VND (about USD 167) for 18 holes on the Nicklaus course on a weekday, 5,800,000 VND (about USD 220) at weekends, with the Norman course at 4,250,000 VND and 5,650,000 VND. Nothing on that page requires a two-ball, a three-ball, or a full flight.

What changes for one player is availability, not permission. A weekday morning in the shoulder months is straightforward. A Saturday in February, when the tee sheet is carrying corporate groups and Korean tour parties, is a different negotiation, and the starter may hold a single back to fill a gap rather than open a fresh slot. Our team normally asks solo guests for two possible dates rather than one, because a Tuesday alternative solves most of these cases in a single email.

Da Nang has four courses inside 40 minutes of the beach strip, so a single player who is flexible on which one usually gets a round. If you want to see how the rounds, transfers and hotel get priced as one number for one person, see how we price a trip for one player.

What does playing alone actually cost extra?

One line item, in practice: the cart. Green fees at Central Vietnam resort courses are quoted per golfer and already include a caddie and a shared buggy, so nobody charges you a “single supplement” on the round itself. What you pay for is having the cart to yourself when there is no second player to share it with.

At Legend Da Nang this is published and unambiguous. The rate card marks the golf cart as compulsory for all guests and prices exclusive use at 590,000 VND for 18 holes (about USD 22) or 390,000 VND for 9 holes at visitor rates. A caddie reservation fee of 200,000 VND (about USD 7.50) sits alongside it. That is in line with the USD 20 to 40 private-cart upgrade we quote in our wider cost guide, so a solo round at Legend Da Nang costs roughly the same as any other round plus one buggy upgrade.

Course Cart compulsory? One golfer, one cart surcharge Minimum players stated Source
Legend Da Nang (Nicklaus & Norman) Yes, stated on the rate card 590,000 VND / 18 holes (~USD 22); 390,000 VND / 9 holes None stated on the rates page Club rate card, effective 01/12/2025 (checked 17 Sep 2026)

We only print a figure where the club publishes one with a date on it. Legend Da Nang is currently the only Central Vietnam course whose public rate card prices the one-golfer-one-cart case, which is why every other row says confirm at booking rather than carrying a number copied across from a different club.

Will you be put in a group with strangers?

Sometimes, and it is usually the cheaper outcome, because a shared cart removes the exclusive-use surcharge. Vietnamese clubs run on 4-ball groups and the starter may pair a single with an existing two or three rather than send one player out alone.

Whether that happens on your day depends on the tee sheet, not on a fixed rule, and the detail belongs to a separate guide: how Vietnam clubs handle group size and pairing covers flight sizes, 5-ball requests and what the starter can and cannot do.

Which Central Vietnam courses work best for a solo golfer?

The useful split is not scenery but how much of the tee sheet is already spoken for. A course running back-to-back group bookings has fewer gaps to slot one player into; a quieter one has more.

Legend Da Nang is the practical starting point for a single player simply because its numbers are public. You can work out the exact cost of a solo round before you commit, which you cannot do anywhere else on this coast right now. Its two eighteens also share a clubhouse, so if the Nicklaus sheet is full the starter has a second course to offer.

Ba Na Hills and Montgomerie Links sit closer to the city and carry a heavier mix of corporate and tour-group play, which cuts both ways for a single: more groups on the sheet means fewer open slots, but also more flights that a solo player can be added to. Hoiana Shores and Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An, roughly 20 and 25 minutes from Hoi An old town, tend to be easier midweek than at weekends. Laguna Golf Lang Co, an hour north towards Hue, is the quietest of the group outside peak season and the one our team reaches for when a guest wants a weekend round at short notice.

Season matters more than any of this. October to March is the busy stretch in Central Vietnam, so a solo request in January needs more lead time than the same request in June. If you are still choosing between the courses themselves, which Da Nang courses are worth the green fee compares them on merit rather than on availability.

How do you book as a solo traveller?

Send three things and the rest is mechanical: the date or dates you can play, your handicap, and the course you would like. The handicap matters because it is the first thing a starter asks when deciding whether to add you to an existing flight.

Here is what GoGolfVietnam can do with that, and what we will not claim:

  • Hold the tee time. We reserve the slot in your name so the round is secure whether or not anyone joins you.
  • Ask the club to pair you. We flag a single-player request to the starter in advance, the same way we flag group size for larger bookings, ideally two to three days before play.
  • Confirm the surcharge before you travel. Where the club publishes a figure we quote it; where it does not, we ask and come back with the club’s answer in writing rather than an estimate.
  • What we cannot promise: that you will be paired. The starter decides on the day, based on who else is out there. If nobody suitable is on the sheet you play alone and pay the exclusive-cart surcharge, and we would rather tell you that now than after you have landed.

Solo travellers who are in Da Nang for several days often find it simpler to book the whole stretch at once, since one confirmation covers every round and transfer: a ready-made Da Nang itinerary priced per golfer is the version most single travellers start from.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do Da Nang courses refuse bookings from single golfers?
›

Not as a published rule. The Legend Da Nang rate card, effective 1 December 2025, sets no minimum number of players for any guest category. Availability on busy weekend mornings is the real constraint, not a policy against singles.

2. How much is the single-cart surcharge in Da Nang?
›

At Legend Da Nang, 590,000 VND (about USD 22) for 18 holes or 390,000 VND for 9 holes at visitor rates, for exclusive use of a cart. The club states that a cart is compulsory for all guests. Other Central Vietnam courses do not publish this figure, so it has to be confirmed when booking.

3. Is it cheaper to be paired with other golfers?
›

Yes, where the cart is the variable. Green fees at Legend Da Nang already include a caddie and a shared cart, so a golfer who shares a buggy avoids the 590,000 VND exclusive-use surcharge entirely. Pairing is not guaranteed, so budget for the surcharge and treat sharing as the saving.

4. What is the best day of the week to play alone?
›

Midweek. Weekend and public-holiday rates are higher at Legend Da Nang, 5,800,000 VND against 4,400,000 VND for 18 holes on the Nicklaus course, and the tee sheet is fuller, which makes a single harder to place.

5. Can I still have a caddie if I play on my own?
›

Yes. Caddies are standard in Vietnam and the fee is built into the green fee at Legend Da Nang, with a caddie reservation fee of 200,000 VND (about USD 7.50) listed separately for visitors. Playing alone changes nothing about the caddie.

6. How far ahead should a solo golfer book?
›

Two to three days is enough for a midweek round outside peak season, which is the same lead time we ask for on any request the starter has to plan around. From October to March, when Central Vietnam is at its busiest, give it longer and offer more than one date.
