What Is The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram Like to Play?
The Bluffs plays like a links course in a tropical setting. Greg Norman laid the holes across a plateau of sand dunes next to the national forest on the Ho Tram coast, so the fairways sit between ridges of exposed sand rather than trees, and the wind off the sea changes the course from season to season. The highest point on the property is about 50 metres above the water, which gives long views along the coast from several tees.
At par 71 and 7,007 yards from the back it is a demanding course, but there are five sets of tees, the shortest around 4,800 yards. Holes golfers tend to remember include the par-3 11th, played towards the ocean, and the 15th, the longest par 3 on the course, which climbs to the highest point of the layout. The 16th is the longest par 5 and the 18th the longest par 4, so the finish asks for distance as well as accuracy in the wind.
That combination of dunes, sea views and wind has kept The Bluffs in Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses in several editions, and it has been named Vietnam’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards more than once. For many visiting golfers it is the one round in southern Vietnam they plan the trip around.
How Do You Get to The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram?
Allow about 2 to 2.5 hours by car from central Ho Chi Minh City (around 120 km), or about an hour from Vung Tau. Because of the drive, most golfers stay at least one night at Ho Tram rather than going there and back in a day. The course sits within The Grand Ho Tram resort, which includes the InterContinental Grand Ho Tram and the Holiday Inn Resort Ho Tram Beach.
GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator in Vietnam, books the tee time together with a private transfer from Saigon, so the long drive is planned around your round rather than squeezed in before it.
