What Are the West and East Courses Like?
The two courses share a clubhouse but play very differently. The West Course, designed by the Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih and opened in 1994, is the older and tighter of the two: narrow fairways lined with palms, a few trees standing in the fairways themselves and fast greens. Its signature is the 11th, a 408-yard par-4 dogleg left. This is the course that staged the Vietnam Open on the Asian PGA Tour in 1995 and 1997.
The East Course, designed by Lee Trevino and opened in 1997, gives more room off the tee but defends itself with around 110 bunkers, water hazards and undulating greens. Both courses sit on fairly flat, wooded land, so the challenge comes from shot placement rather than elevation. The club returned to the Asian Tour schedule in 2008 with the Hana Bank Vietnam Masters.
Vietnam Golf & Country Club was the first 36-hole club in Vietnam, and it is still a members’ club with priority for members, so visitor tee times are easiest to secure on weekdays. Part of the course has floodlights, so ask us about later tee times if you arrive in the afternoon.
How Do You Get to Vietnam Golf & Country Club?
The club is on the eastern side of Ho Chi Minh City in Thu Duc, about 20 km from District 1. In daytime traffic allow 40 minutes to an hour; early-morning tee times are quicker. That makes it one of the easiest full-size courses to reach from a central hotel.
