Hanoi Golf Trip from Malaysia: Flights, Costs & What to Know Before You Book (2026)

Last updated: 7 October 2026

A Hanoi golf trip from Malaysia needs less paperwork than almost any other golf holiday in Asia. Five airlines fly Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi nonstop in about 3 hours 20 minutes, and Malaysian passport holders walk through immigration without a visa. What takes planning is the part between the airport and the first tee: which flight fits which tee time, how many rounds a long weekend holds, and what it adds up to in ringgit.

Quick Answer

A Hanoi golf trip from Malaysia starts with a nonstop flight of about 3 hours 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, with around 43 flights a week on five airlines. Malaysians can stay in Vietnam for up to 30 days without a visa. Four days and three nights fit three rounds. A weekday round costs about 1,850,000 VND (~US$70, about RM290) with caddie and buggy included.

Flights from Malaysia to Hanoi

Kuala Lumpur (KUL) is the only Malaysian airport with a nonstop flight to Hanoi Noi Bai (HAN). Vietnam is one hour behind Malaysia, so the first flight of the day, leaving at 06:05, lands at 08:25 local time.

Airline From Flight time Golf bag
Malaysia Airlines Kuala Lumpur (KUL) About 3 h 20 Free 15 kg golf set for Enrich Platinum only; otherwise depends on fare class
AirAsia Kuala Lumpur (KUL) About 3 h 20 Pre-book as sports equipment, 20–40 kg tiers; cheaper online than at the counter
Batik Air Kuala Lumpur (KUL) About 3 h 20 Not yet checked by us; confirm with the airline before booking
Vietnam Airlines Kuala Lumpur (KUL) About 3 h 20 One golf set up to 23 kg free on most fares
Vietjet Air Kuala Lumpur (KUL) About 3 h 20 Add 20 kg online for about 480,000 VND (~US$18) each way

Airlines, flight time and schedule are from FlightConnections’ October 2026 data, checked on 7 October 2026: about 43 flights a week, the first leaving Kuala Lumpur at 06:05 and the last at 20:10, arriving 22:30. Penang has no nonstop flight to Hanoi at present, so golfers from Penang, Johor Bahru or East Malaysia connect through Kuala Lumpur. Golf bag rules come from our airline baggage guide and vary by fare type, so check your ticket before you pack.

Do Malaysians need a visa for Vietnam?

No. Holders of ordinary Malaysian passports can enter Vietnam without a visa and stay for up to 30 days, under the exemption Vietnam gives to ASEAN member states.

  • Length of stay: up to 30 days, far more than a golf trip needs.
  • Passport validity: at least six months from the date you arrive.
  • Staying longer: apply for an e-visa on the government portal, evisa.gov.vn, before you travel.

Entry rules can change, so check again close to departure. The 30-day exemption and the passport rule are as listed by Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, checked October 2026. Travellers in your group on other passports should check their own rules.

Which flight times work with tee times?

The early flight out and an evening flight home give you the most golf. Land at 08:25 and you can be on a course by early afternoon; leave after 6pm and the last morning is a full round.

Arrival day. BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort is about 15 minutes from Noi Bai Airport and all 18 holes are floodlit, with night rounds usually running until around 10pm. That makes it the natural first round: collect your bags, drive 15 minutes, play, then go into the city. If you would rather check in first, Long Bien Golf Course is 20 to 30 minutes from the Old Quarter and also plays under lights. Our guide explains which Hanoi courses are floodlit for a late tee time.

Departure day. A morning round at Long Bien or Legend Hill, a shower at the clubhouse and a transfer to the airport fit comfortably before the 20:10 flight. With an earlier flight home, treat the last day as a travel day.

Flying on a Friday. If Friday prayers matter to your group, tell us when you book. We set tee times and transfers around them instead of asking you to choose.

A 4-day Hanoi golf itinerary from Kuala Lumpur

Four days and three nights is the trip most Malaysian groups ask for: two days of leave either side of a weekend, three rounds and three evenings in the city. Drive times are from the Old Quarter.

Day Flight and transfer Golf Evening
1 Morning flight from KUL, private car to the hotel Rest, or nine holes at night at Long Bien Old Quarter on foot
2 45–60 minute drive BRG Kings Island Golf Resort Dinner around Hoan Kiem Lake
3 About 1 hour drive Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club Water puppet show or a massage
4 20–30 minute drive, then the airport Long Bien Golf Course, early tee time Evening flight to Kuala Lumpur

This follows the order of the four-day, three-course package we run from a city hotel, so the tee times, car and hotel can be booked as one. Long Bien requires at least three players in a group; if only two of you are travelling, ask us to confirm a pairing first.

The long-weekend version

Three days and two nights hold two rounds comfortably and three if the flights fall right.

  • Day 1: 06:05 flight, afternoon round at Legend Hill near the airport, city hotel by evening.
  • Day 2: 18 holes at Kings Island or Sky Lake.
  • Day 3: morning round at Long Bien, then the evening flight; skip it if you fly at midday.

We would not go shorter than that. Two days and one night leaves time for one round, which is hard to justify against the airfare.

What does it cost in ringgit?

On the course, three weekday rounds come to about 5,550,000 VND (~US$210, about RM860). That is based on Hanoi’s benchmark course, BRG Kings Island Lakeside, at around 1,850,000 VND a weekday round, and the figure normally includes the caddie and a shared buggy.

  • Weekday green fee: about 1,850,000 VND a round (~US$70, about RM290).
  • Weekend green fee: about 3,200,000 VND a round (~US$122, about RM500), close to double.
  • Club rental: 590,000 to 1,250,000 VND a set for 18 holes (~US$22–48, about RM90–200), depending on the course.
  • Not included above: flights, hotel, transfers, meals and the caddie tip, which is paid in cash in Vietnamese dong.

Ringgit amounts use Bank Negara Malaysia’s KL USD/MYR reference rate of 4.0858 on 6 October 2026, rounded, as a guide only. Because weekend rates are close to double, a Sunday-to-Wednesday trip costs noticeably less on the course than a Friday-to-Monday one. For more detail, see how weekday and weekend green fees compare across Hanoi.

Best months, matched to Malaysian holidays

Hanoi is not tropical in the way Kuala Lumpur is. It has four seasons, and the best golf weather is February to April and September to November. December and January are cold by Malaysian standards, with morning fog, so bring a jacket and expect tee times from 9 or 10am. May to August is hot and humid, closer to what you know at home.

Holiday Date Golf in Hanoi
Deepavali Sunday 8 November 2026 (not Sarawak) Autumn, among the best weeks of the year
Christmas Friday 25 December 2026 Cold with morning fog; later tee times
New Year Friday 1 January 2027 (not all states) Cold with morning fog; later tee times
Chinese New Year 6–7 February 2027 Same week as Tet in Vietnam; course hours and rates differ
Hari Raya Aidilfitri Around 10–11 March 2027 (provisional) Spring, good golf weather
Labour Day and Wesak 1 May and 20 May 2027 Turning hot; play early or at night

The 2026 dates are from the Malaysian government’s MyGovernment calendar; the 2027 dates are from published holiday calendars and are provisional, especially the Islamic holidays, which are confirmed nearer the time. Public holidays also differ by state, including state rulers’ birthdays and replacement days when a holiday falls on a weekend, so check your own state’s list before you book leave.

Hanoi or Da Nang from Malaysia?

Both are nonstop from Kuala Lumpur. Da Nang is the shorter flight and the beach trip; Hanoi has more courses and a capital city to explore.

Hanoi Da Nang
Nonstop from KUL About 3 h 20 About 2 h 35 to 2 h 50
Courses About 12, lake and valley layouts 8, mostly coastal
City to course 20 to 90 minutes Mostly 20 to 45 minutes
Best months Feb–Apr, Sep–Nov Feb–May, dry into Aug; wet Sep–Nov

If the coast appeals more, start with our guide to flying from Malaysia to Da Nang for golf. For a September-to-November trip, Hanoi is the safer choice, because that is the wettest stretch on the central coast.

Food, prayer times and other practical notes

We keep this section to what we can stand behind.

  • Halal food. Clubhouse kitchens at Hanoi’s courses are not halal-certified, and we do not claim otherwise. Tell us when you book and we plan meals around it, choosing restaurants in the city instead of relying on the clubhouse.
  • Prayer times. We have not confirmed a prayer room at any Hanoi course. What we can do is leave clear gaps in the day’s schedule; tell us what your group needs.
  • Money. Courses and hotels take cards. Caddie tips and small purchases need Vietnamese dong in cash, so change some on arrival.
  • Language. GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator based in Da Nang, also runs a Traditional Chinese site with WeChat support for Chinese-speaking golfers.
  • Clothing. From December to February, pack a windproof layer. Hanoi mornings can be 10–15°C.

When your dates are set, our Hanoi golf packages planned around flights from Kuala Lumpur are the quickest place to compare trip lengths.
