Last updated: 7 October 2026

A Hanoi golf trip from Taiwan is a shorter hop than most golfers expect. Taoyuan to Noi Bai is about three hours nonstop, Kaohsiung is quicker still, and the first morning flight lands before 10am local time. The flying is the easy part. What needs sorting before you go is the e-visa, which flight fits a tee time, and how many rounds a three- or four-day holiday can really hold.

Quick Answer

A Hanoi golf trip from Taiwan starts with a nonstop flight of about 3 hours from Taipei or 2 hours 45 minutes from Kaohsiung. Taiwan passport holders need a Vietnam e-visa before travel: USD 25 for single entry, valid for up to 90 days. Four days and three nights fit three rounds; three days fit two or three. The best months are February to April and September to November.

Which airlines fly from Taiwan to Hanoi?

Five airlines fly nonstop from Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) to Hanoi Noi Bai (HAN), and two of them also fly from Kaohsiung (KHH). Vietnam is one hour behind Taiwan, so a 07:30 departure from Taoyuan lands at 09:30 local time with most of the day still ahead.

Airline From Flight time Golf bag
China Airlines Taipei (TPE) About 3 hours Counts within the normal checked allowance; hard case required
EVA Air Taipei (TPE) About 3 hours Counts within the normal checked allowance; hard case required
Starlux Airlines Taipei (TPE) About 3 hours Not yet checked by us; confirm with the airline before booking
Vietnam Airlines Taipei (TPE), Kaohsiung (KHH) About 3 hours; about 2 h 45 from Kaohsiung One golf set up to 23 kg free on most fares
Vietjet Air Taipei (TPE), Kaohsiung (KHH) About 3 hours; about 2 h 45 from Kaohsiung Add 20 kg online for about 480,000 VND (~US$18) each way

Airlines and times are from Trip.com flight data checked on 7 October 2026: about 49 flights a week from Taipei, the first leaving at 07:30 and the last at 19:00, and about 27 a week from Kaohsiung, the first leaving at 08:40 and landing at 10:25. Vietnam Airlines’ own site lists 10 flights a week between Kaohsiung and Hanoi. Schedules change each season, so check again before you book. Golf bag rules come from our airline baggage guide and vary by fare type.

Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Taiwan is not on Vietnam’s visa-exemption list, so you need an e-visa approved before you fly. It cannot be arranged on arrival.

  • Where to apply: the Vietnamese government’s e-visa portal, evisa.gov.vn. The whole process is online.
  • Fee: USD 25 for single entry (about NT$800) or USD 50 for multiple entry.
  • Length of stay: up to 90 days. Single entry is enough for a short golf trip.
  • What you need: your passport data page, a portrait photo, your entry date and your port of entry (Noi Bai, Hanoi).
  • When to apply: we suggest two to three weeks before departure, and earlier ahead of a long weekend.

Use the official portal. Agency sites that appear in search results often charge several times the government fee for the same visa. Fee and validity are as set on the government e-visa portal, checked October 2026.

Which flight times work best for golf?

Fly out on a morning flight and home on an afternoon or evening one. That turns four days into three full rounds, with the option of playing on day one.

Arrival day. BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort is about 15 minutes from Noi Bai, all 18 holes are floodlit, and night rounds usually run until around 10pm. Land at 09:30, collect your bags and an afternoon tee time is comfortable. If 18 holes on day one feels like too much, check in first and play nine under lights at Long Bien, 20 to 30 minutes from the Old Quarter. Our guide covers how late Legend Hill and Long Bien play under lights.

Departure day. Play a morning round at Long Bien or Legend Hill, shower at the clubhouse or hotel, then head to the airport. This only works with an afternoon or evening flight home, so choose the return flight with the last round in mind.

A 4-day, 3-night Hanoi golf itinerary from Taiwan

Four days and three nights is the easiest trip to fit around work: one or two days of leave next to a weekend, and three courses that play nothing alike. Drive times are from the Old Quarter.

Day Flight and transfer Course Evening
1 Morning flight to Noi Bai, private car to the hotel No golf, or nine holes at night at Long Bien Old Quarter walk and a bowl of pho
2 45–60 minute drive BRG Kings Island Golf Resort Dinner around Hoan Kiem Lake
3 About 1 hour drive Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club Water puppets or a massage
4 20–30 minute drive, then straight to the airport Long Bien Golf Course, early tee time Afternoon or evening flight to Taiwan

If you would rather not book round by round, GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator based in Da Nang, runs the same three courses as a ready-made four-day trip. One thing to know: Long Bien requires at least three players in a group, so two golfers travelling together need a pairing confirmed first.

The 3-day long-weekend version

A three-day holiday still works, and it holds two or three rounds.

  • Day 1: morning flight, afternoon round at Legend Hill by the airport, into the city by evening.
  • Day 2: 18 holes at Kings Island or Sky Lake.
  • Day 3: a morning round at Long Bien and then the airport, or no golf if the flight is early.

We do not recommend two days and one night. Once airport transfers are taken out there is time for a single round, which is poor value for the airfare.

How much does the trip cost?

On the course, three weekday rounds come to about 5,550,000 VND (~US$210, about NT$6,700). That uses Hanoi’s benchmark, BRG Kings Island Lakeside, at around 1,850,000 VND a weekday round, a figure that normally includes the caddie and a shared buggy.

  • Weekday green fee: about 1,850,000 VND a round (~US$70, about NT$2,200).
  • Weekend green fee: about 3,200,000 VND a round (~US$122, about NT$3,850), close to double.
  • Club rental: 590,000 to 1,250,000 VND a set for 18 holes (~US$22–48, about NT$700–1,500), depending on the course.
  • E-visa: USD 25 (about NT$800).
  • Also budget for: flights, hotel, transfers, meals and the caddie tip, which is paid in cash on the day.

New Taiwan dollar amounts use the Bank of Taiwan US dollar spot selling rate of 31.84 on 7 October 2026, rounded, as a guide only. Long weekends include a Saturday and Sunday, when weekend rates apply, so the cheapest plan is to play on the weekdays either side.

When should you go? Matching Taiwan’s long weekends

Hanoi has four real seasons, and the comfortable golf months are February to April and September to November. Winter is cold and damp, much like Taipei, so this is not a trip to escape the cold; in December and January, morning fog means tee times are best set for 9 or 10am. Holiday dates below follow the calendar published by Taiwan’s Directorate-General of Personnel Administration.

Holiday Dates Days Golf in Hanoi
Retrocession Day 24–26 Oct 2026 3 Autumn, among the best weeks of the year
Constitution Day 25–27 Dec 2026 3 Cold, morning fog; book 9–10am tee times
New Year 1–3 Jan 2027 3 Cold, morning fog; bring a windproof layer
Lunar New Year 4–10 Feb 2027 7 Tet in Vietnam too; course hours and rates differ
Peace Memorial Day 27 Feb–1 Mar 2027 3 Spring, good
Children’s Day and Tomb Sweeping 3–6 Apr 2027 4 Spring; fits the four-day plan exactly
Labour Day 30 Apr–2 May 2027 3 Turning hot; play early or at night

Lunar New Year is the one to plan carefully, because Vietnam is on holiday the same week. For any of the others, send us your dates and we will build one of our Hanoi golf trips timed to a Taiwan long weekend around the tee times open on those days.

Hanoi or Da Nang from Taiwan?

Both are about three hours from Taipei. The difference is the type of golf and the season.

Hanoi Da Nang
Nonstop from Taipei About 3 hours About 2 h 50
Courses About 12, lake and valley layouts 8, mostly coastal
City to course 20 to 90 minutes Mostly 20 to 45 minutes
Best months Feb–Apr, Sep–Nov Feb–May, dry into Aug; wet Sep–Nov

In short: pick Hanoi for an October or November long weekend, and Da Nang when the group wants a beach with its golf.

Bring your clubs or rent?

For one or two rounds, renting is simpler. For three or more, bringing your own usually wins when the airline carries the bag within your allowance or for free. Every course around Hanoi rents full sets; reserve them with the tee time, and ask early for left-handed or ladies’ clubs. Prices by course are in our guide to what a rental set costs at each Hanoi course.

Booking has its own rules too, such as group size and weekend cancellation deadlines. They are set out in the club-by-club booking rules for Hanoi.
