Tam Dao Golf Resort climbs into the Tam Dao mountains of Vinh Phuc Province, about 49km and roughly an hour from Hanoi. Opened in 2007 and designed by IMG, this 18-hole, par-72 course has spent nearly two decades cutting Paspalum fairways through forested slopes, streams and waterfalls at a cooler elevation than the capital.

Tam Dao Golf Resort: Vietnam’s Original Mountain Course in the Tam Dao Range
Long before Thanh Lanh Valley or Heron Lake put Vinh Phuc on the golf map, Tam Dao Golf Resort was already carving fairways into these hills. IMG opened the course in 2007, laying out 18 holes and a par of 72 across land that climbs steadily into the Tam Dao range, roughly 49km and an hour’s drive from central Hanoi.
The routing leans on what the mountains already provide: streams cross several fairways, small waterfalls drop along the tree line, and man-made lakes pinch driving lines on holes running toward the ridge. Paspalum grass covers the tees and fairways, with Sea Isle 2000 on the greens, both suited to the humid swings between valley heat and mountain damp.
What separates Tam Dao from the newer lakeside resorts nearby is elevation, not water. Where Thanh Lanh Valley built its identity around a man-made lake and a 2021 clubhouse modeled on a European castle, Tam Dao’s game plan is older and simpler: get high enough into the mountains that the air runs several degrees cooler than Hanoi, with fog settling over the back nine on humid mornings. Nearly two decades of play have also left the course a little rougher around the edges than its younger neighbors, with some visitors noting the clubhouse could use an update.
A clubhouse, driving range, pro shop and restaurant cover the basics, and caddies are required for every round, with carts available to rent on site. The course opens daily, making it a straightforward add-on for golfers already spending a few nights in the Tam Dao area.
