Phu Quoc Golf Trip from Taiwan (2026–2027): Direct Flights, 30-Day Visa-Free Entry, Two Courses and a 4-Day Plan

Golfer teeing off beside a lake on a Phu Quoc golf course, the kind of round a nonstop trip from Taiwan is built around

Last updated: 17 October 2026

A Phu Quoc golf trip from Taiwan is one of the simplest golf breaks in Asia to plan. Three airlines fly nonstop from Taoyuan in under four hours, you can enter the island without a visa, and both of its 18-hole courses sit in the north, a short drive from the main resorts. Better still, Taiwan’s two big winter holidays in 2027 land in Phu Quoc’s driest weeks.

Quick Answer

Sun PhuQuoc Airways, STARLUX and VietJet fly Taipei Taoyuan to Phu Quoc nonstop in about 3 hours 50 minutes to 4 hours. Arriving directly from abroad, you can usually stay on the island for up to 30 days without a visa. Phu Quoc has two courses, Vinpearl Golf and Eschuri Vung Bau, so four days and three nights covers both.

Why Phu Quoc works so well from Taiwan

Two things set it apart from Hanoi or Da Nang: no visa paperwork if you fly straight in, and a dry season that peaks exactly when Taiwan goes on holiday. Lunar New Year 2027 runs from 4 to 10 February in Taiwan, and the 228 long weekend from 27 February to 1 March. January and February are Phu Quoc’s two driest months, each with under 30 mm of rain on long-term averages.

The trade-off is choice. With only two courses, Phu Quoc is a two-round trip rather than a week of course-hopping. For couples and families that is often the point; for a group of four who want five rounds, our Phu Quoc golf trips built around Taiwan’s long weekends can add a replay or a longer stay.

Taipei to Phu Quoc flights

All three nonstop services leave Taoyuan in the afternoon. We checked schedules for 11 and 12 January 2027 on Google Flights on 17 October 2026:

Airline Taoyuan → Phu Quoc (local times) Flight time One-way fare seen (before bags)
Sun PhuQuoc Airways 17:25 → 20:20 3h 55m from about NT$5,600
STARLUX 14:40 → 17:40 4h from about NT$11,800
VietJet 14:00 → 16:50 3h 50m from about NT$3,600

Not every airline flies every day, so check the days of the week for your dates on the airline’s own site. We found no nonstop from Kaohsiung; travellers from the south connect via Hong Kong or Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is one hour behind Taiwan.

Phu Quoc International Airport is in the middle of the island, roughly 40 to 50 minutes by car from the Bai Dai resort area and both courses. Since every flight lands late afternoon or evening, day one is check-in and dinner, not golf.

Phu Quoc visa-free entry: what Taiwan passport holders need to know

Phu Quoc’s 30-day exemption applies to every nationality, including Taiwan passports. If you fly into Phu Quoc International Airport directly from abroad, you can usually stay on the island for up to 30 days without a visa. The basis is Vietnam’s Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners (2014, amended 2019); a February 2025 summary by the Vietnamese legal database Thu Vien Phap Luat confirms the exemption covers staying and sightseeing on Phu Quoc only.

Three ways people lose the exemption

1. Clearing immigration in Ho Chi Minh City and taking a domestic flight to the island. That is not a direct arrival, so you need an e-visa.
2. Leaving the island for the mainland, for example a night in Saigon or Da Nang on the way home. You need a Vietnamese e-visa for that leg, and an airline may refuse boarding without one.
3. A passport close to expiry. Six months’ validity from your travel date is the safe rule.

Rules can change, so check with Vietnam’s immigration department or your airline before you fly. Our advice is simple: book nonstop and the visa question disappears.

Flying with golf clubs

VietJet is a low-cost carrier, so a golf bag is ordinary checked baggage: buy enough weight when you book, because adding it online is far cheaper than paying at the counter. Sun PhuQuoc Airways and STARLUX include a checked allowance, but whether clubs fit inside it, and what overweight costs, depends on your fare. Read the airline’s sports-equipment page when you book and call if anything is unclear; our flying with golf clubs to Vietnam guide covers the main airlines in more detail. For a two-round trip, renting clubs on the island is also an option. Just ask when you request a quote.

Which Taiwan long weekend should you use?

Lunar New Year and 228 are the strongest choices. Holiday dates below are from the 2027 government calendar published by Taiwan’s Directorate-General of Personnel Administration on 21 May 2026; the weather comes from our Phu Quoc month-by-month guide.

2027 holiday Days Phu Quoc weather Our take
New Year, 1–3 January 3 Dry; about 28 mm in January, highs near 31°C Only one round in three days; add a day off
Lunar New Year, 4–10 February 7 Driest stretch of the year; about 27 mm in February The best weather, but Vietnam also celebrates Tet (6 February), so book flights and tee times early
228 weekend, 27 February–1 March 3 Still dry; about 61 mm in March, hotter middays Take one day off for a four-day trip and play both courses
Children’s Day and Tomb Sweeping, 3–6 April 4 End of the dry season; April is the hottest month and showers return Workable with early tee times

Tet week is the busiest of the year on the island because Vietnamese families travel too. Our guests who travel then usually lock in flights and tee times in October or November. For rainfall and temperatures month by month, see how January to April actually plays on the island.

Playing both Phu Quoc courses in one trip

Forest fairway at Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc, the first course on a Phu Quoc golf trip from Taiwan
Vinpearl Golf sits a few minutes from the Bai Dai resorts.

Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc is the IMG-designed forest course that opened in 2015, par 72, right next to the Bai Dai resorts, VinWonders and the Safari. It is the easy choice if family members want a theme-park day while you play. Our full review of the forest course five minutes from the Bai Dai resorts covers how it plays.

Eschuri Vung Bau Golf Resort is the newer course, fully open as 18 holes since 2025, par 72 and 7,508 yards. It runs from forest into sandy ground and finishes along the beach, about 30 minutes from the northern resorts, and it offers night golf. Read what to expect on Eschuri’s beachside 14th and 15th before you go.

Caddie and cart arrangements are confirmed with each course at booking, and we spell them out in your quote. More on both courses in our Phu Quoc course-and-hotel guide.

A four-day Phu Quoc golf itinerary from Taipei

Beachside hole at Eschuri Vung Bau on a four-day Phu Quoc golf itinerary
Day two: Eschuri, where the back nine reaches the sea.

With afternoon arrivals and morning or midday departures, four days gives you two rounds, one on each course:

Day Plan
Day 1 Afternoon nonstop from Taoyuan; arrive late afternoon or evening; 40–50 minutes to a northern resort
Day 2 Morning round at Eschuri; pool in the afternoon; ask about night golf that week
Day 3 Morning round at Vinpearl Golf; VinWonders or Sunset Town later
Day 4 Breakfast, then the airport for your flight home

That is the shape of our four-day Phu Quoc package timed for a nonstop flight from Taipei, with Eschuri on day two, Vinpearl Golf on day three, hotel and transfers included. Only three days? Then you get one round: Eschuri for the sea views, Vinpearl Golf if you are travelling with children. An evening return flight can buy you a second round on the last morning, so check the return time before you book.

What a Phu Quoc golf trip from Taiwan costs

Airfare moves the most. Mid-January weekday fares we saw started around NT$3,600 to NT$11,800 one way, depending on the airline. For a 5 February 2027 departure, at the start of Lunar New Year, Sun PhuQuoc Airways was already about NT$16,800 one way. Package prices below use USD 1 = about NT$32.4 (16 October 2026).

Item Guide price
Taoyuan return, nonstop, ordinary week about NT$7,000–24,000, depending on airline and bags
Taoyuan return, Lunar New Year week from about NT$16,800 one way
Three-day Vinpearl Golf stay-and-play from USD 529 (about NT$17,100)
Four-day package, both courses from USD 699 (about NT$22,600)

Package prices exclude international flights and change with group size, hotel and dates, so treat them as a starting point. Resorts and courses generally take cards; carry some Vietnamese dong for tips, taxis and street food.

Should you add Saigon?

It is tempting to stop in Ho Chi Minh City on the way home for a night and a round. Remember that leaving Phu Quoc for the mainland ends the visa exemption, so you need an e-visa (USD 25 single entry, applied for at evisa.gov.vn). It also adds a domestic flight and another round of hauling golf bags. In our experience, four days or fewer works best as Phu Quoc only; with six or more, a Saigon stop starts to make sense.

Travelling with family? The north of the island has VinWonders and the Safari, and the south has the Hon Thom cable car, enough for two or three days. Our things to do in Phu Quoc for non-golfers guide plans those days.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are there direct flights from Taiwan to Phu Quoc?›

Yes. Sun PhuQuoc Airways, STARLUX and VietJet fly nonstop from Taipei Taoyuan in about 3 hours 50 minutes to 4 hours, on different days of the week. We found no nonstop from Kaohsiung.

2. Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa for Phu Quoc?›

Not if you fly directly into Phu Quoc from abroad: you can usually stay on the island for up to 30 days visa-free. Entering through Ho Chi Minh City, or travelling on to the mainland, requires a Vietnamese e-visa. Check the latest rules before you fly.

3. How many rounds can I play on a four-day trip?›

Two. Flights from Taipei arrive in the afternoon and leave in the morning or at midday, so days two and three are your golf days, one at Eschuri and one at Vinpearl Golf.

4. Is Lunar New Year a good time for golf in Phu Quoc?›

The weather is at its best, with about 27 mm of rain in February, but Vietnam celebrates Tet too (6 February 2027), so book flights and tee times a month or two earlier than usual.

5. What is the time difference between Taiwan and Phu Quoc?›

Vietnam is one hour behind Taiwan.

6. Can I combine Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City?›

Yes, but leaving Phu Quoc for the mainland requires a Vietnamese e-visa. For trips of four days or fewer, we suggest Phu Quoc only.
