Last updated: 22 October 2026 · By the GoGolfVietnam team, who plan halal-friendly golf trips to Ho Chi Minh City
Halal food in Ho Chi Minh City is concentrated in District 1, around the Saigon Central Mosque at 66 Dong Du and the streets beside Ben Thanh Market. That puts it within walking distance of the main golf hotels. The golf courses are a different story: none of the clubhouses is halal-certified, so on a golf day lunch has to be planned.
Quick Answer
- Mosque: Saigon Central Mosque, 66 Dong Du, District 1; Jumu’ah around midday.
- Where to eat: Dong Du Street and Nguyen An Ninh beside Ben Thanh Market.
- At the courses: no certified clubhouse; order pork-free dishes or bring a packed lunch.
- Fridays: a 06:00 tee time at Tan Son Nhat gets you back to Dong Du before noon.
- Ramadan 2027: about 8 February to 9 March, in the dry season; play at dawn.
What counts as halal in Ho Chi Minh City?
You will meet three levels of halal in Ho Chi Minh City: certified, Muslim-run and halal-friendly, and only the first comes with paperwork. A certified restaurant holds a certificate from a halal authority. A Muslim-run kitchen cooks to halal rules but may not hold a certificate. Halal-friendly is what we offer: pork-free and alcohol-free arrangements, chosen and confirmed for you in writing.
The difference from the rest of Vietnam is choice. Ho Chi Minh City has a long-established Muslim community and far more halal kitchens than Da Nang or Phu Quoc. Many visiting golfers come from Malaysia, and our guide for Malaysian golfers flying into Ho Chi Minh City covers flights from KL and a ringgit budget.
The Dong Du mosque, and how far it is from each course
The Saigon Central Mosque, completed in 1935, stands at 66 Dong Du in District 1, and four of the five courses we use are within about 70 minutes of it. It was founded by the city’s Indian Muslim community and is still known locally as Masjid Musulman. Hotel Grand Saigon is about 300 metres away.

| Course | Drive from Ben Thanh Market | Back to Dong Du for Friday prayers? |
|---|---|---|
| Tan Son Nhat Golf Course | About 32 min | Yes, with a 06:00 tee time |
| Vietnam Golf & Country Club | About 43 min; 57 min back to the mosque in afternoon traffic | Yes, with a dawn start; our Muslim package plays it on the Friday |
| Long Thanh Golf Club | About 1 h 4 min | Not on a Friday |
| Vinpearl Golf Léman (Cu Chi) | About 1 h 8 min | Not on a Friday |
| The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram | About 2 h | No; stay at Ho Tram on another night |
Drive times: Google Maps from Ben Thanh Market, evening of 21 October 2026; Vietnam Golf & Country Club to the mosque measured 21 October 2026 around 16:40. Mosque history: Saigon Central Mosque (Wikipedia). Distance from Hotel Grand Saigon: Google Maps, 21 October 2026.
The mosque does not publish a Friday timetable online. Jumu’ah is held around midday, so we plan to have guests back in District 1 by 11:30 and confirm the time with the mosque that week.
Lunch on a golf day, course by course
No course near Ho Chi Minh City has a halal restaurant on site, so lunch is either pork-free at the clubhouse, packed from District 1 or eaten after the round back in town. The table shows what we would actually do at each club.
| Course | Nearest option we can stand behind | Status | How we plan lunch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tan Son Nhat | Bismillah Restaurant, 45 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan, on the road back into the city | Muslim-run kitchen, not officially certified | Play early, eat on the way back |
| Vietnam Golf & Country Club | None near the course | Clubhouse not certified | Packed lunch from District 1, or a late lunch at Dong Du |
| Long Thanh | None near the course | Clubhouse not certified | Packed lunch; dinner in District 1 |
| Vinpearl Golf Léman | None published for Léman | Clubhouse not certified | Packed lunch; ask about outside food when booking |
| Song Be and Twin Doves (north of the city) | None near the courses | Clubhouses not certified | Packed lunch |
| The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram | None near the course | Resort and clubhouse not certified | Arranged meals during the overnight stay |
Bismillah: Vietnam Tourism, updated 9 August 2026 (“not officially certified, but the kitchen is run by Muslims”). Clubhouse status: the clubs’ published information, checked October 2026.
Early tee times make all of this easier, because a round that starts at 06:00 is over before lunch. Our guide to how tee time booking works at each Ho Chi Minh City club explains how far ahead to ask for those first slots.
Dinner in District 1: Dong Du and the streets by Ben Thanh
The best halal dining for golfers is a walk from the hotels: Dong Du, the mosque street, and Nguyen An Ninh beside Ben Thanh Market. We only name places where we can say what their halal status rests on. Every entry below was checked on 22 October 2026, and none of them is a recommendation on price.
| Place | Where | What we could verify | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halal@Saigon | 31 Dong Du, District 1, on the mosque street | A halal certificate is reported on display; the issuing body is not published. No alcohol. | Zabihah listing, “fully halal” |
| Pho Muslim | TK25/18 Tran Hung Dao, Cau Kho, District 1 | Muslim-owned; no certificate named | Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (vietnam.travel); Vietnam Airlines travel guide |
| Nguyen An Ninh street | Beside Ben Thanh Market, District 1 | Several Malay- and Indonesian-style halal eateries; certificates not stated | Vietnam Airlines travel guide |
| Bismillah Restaurant | 45 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan | Muslim-run kitchen, not officially certified | Vietnam Tourism, 9 August 2026 |
Other District 1 places describe themselves as halal, and some may well hold certificates. Where we could not find out who issued one, we have left them out rather than repeat a claim. If certification matters to you, ask to see the certificate at the door.
What the clubhouses can and cannot do
Clubhouse kitchens around Ho Chi Minh City are not halal-certified, but they can usually serve something you are comfortable with. You can ask for fish, egg or vegetable dishes without pork, but the same kitchen cooks pork for other guests. If that rules the clubhouse out, a packed lunch is the cleaner answer.
- Prayer space: we know of no prayer room at any of these clubs. You can ask the club whether a quiet room is free; it is a favour, not a facility.
- Outside food: rules differ. Vinpearl’s published course rules for its clubs mention a service fee for bringing in food or drink, so ask at Léman when you book.
Fitting a round around Friday prayers
On a Friday, play Tan Son Nhat at dawn and you can be back at Dong Du before noon. Vietnam Golf & Country Club works too with a first-light start, but Tan Son Nhat leaves the most room. It is the closest course to District 1, and its online booking form offers tee times from 05:30. A 06:00 start, a brisk four hours and the 32-minute drive put you in District 1 around 10:45.
| Friday | Plan |
|---|---|
| 05:15 | Leave the hotel; roads are still quiet |
| 06:00 | Tee off at Tan Son Nhat |
| 10:15 | Finish, shower at the clubhouse |
| About 11:00 | Back in District 1; walk to the mosque |
| Midday | Jumu’ah at 66 Dong Du; lunch on Dong Du afterwards |
The alternative is an afternoon nine at Tan Son Nhat after prayers; its form lists tee times until 17:15. Longer drives, such as Long Thanh or Léman, belong on other days. For how this compares with Hanoi, which also has a mosque within reach of its courses, see which Vietnamese golf cities make Friday prayers easy.
Golf during Ramadan 2027
Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from about 8 February to 9 March, which falls in Ho Chi Minh City’s dry season. The mornings are the most comfortable time to play. We plan rounds to start at first light, after suhoor, and to finish before the midday heat.
- Ask your hotel in writing whether it can serve an early suhoor; not every kitchen opens that early.
- Break the fast in District 1, where halal options cluster around Dong Du.
- Keep rounds to one a day and avoid the two longest drives, The Bluffs and Léman, while fasting.
Ramadan dates: The National, 6 October 2026. Final dates depend on the moon sighting.
Hotels within walking distance of the mosque
Stay on or near Dong Khoi and the mosque, halal dinners and the hotel are all on foot. These are the two hotels in our Ho Chi Minh City Muslim golf package.
| Hotel | Walk to 66 Dong Du | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Grand Saigon | About 300 m, 4 minutes | The closest of our hotels to the mosque |
| Le Méridien Saigon | About 750 m, 11 minutes | Riverside, a short walk further |
Walking times: Google Maps, 21 October 2026. Neither hotel publishes a halal-certified kitchen; we request pork-free breakfast choices in writing.
Both hotels feature in our golf trips from District 1 that we can adapt for halal meals, so any of them can be set up this way.
Let us arrange the halal side
GoGolfVietnam, a local golf tour operator based in Da Nang, plans the mosque, the meals and the tee times together, so a Friday round and a halal dinner do not depend on luck. Our four-day Ho Chi Minh City golf trip built around Dong Du and an early Friday round includes three rounds, a hotel near the mosque and transfers. Breakfast is included; other meals are arranged with you, not included, and no alcohol is part of the package.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is there halal food in Ho Chi Minh City?›
Yes, more than in any other Vietnamese golf city we plan for. Most of it sits in District 1, on Dong Du Street near the mosque and on Nguyen An Ninh beside Ben Thanh Market. Few places publish who certified them, so ask to see a certificate if that matters to you.
2. Where is the mosque in Ho Chi Minh City?›
The Saigon Central Mosque (Masjid Musulman) is at 66 Dong Du, District 1, a short walk from the Dong Khoi hotels. It was completed in 1935. The city has other mosques, but this is the one closest to where visiting golfers stay.
3. Are golf clubhouses in Saigon halal?›
No clubhouse we work with around Ho Chi Minh City is halal-certified, and none has a prayer room that we know of. You can usually order fish, egg or vegetable dishes without pork, or we arrange a packed lunch from a halal kitchen in District 1.
4. Can I make Friday prayers and still play golf in Ho Chi Minh City?›
Yes, if you tee off early. A 06:00 start at Tan Son Nhat, about 32 minutes from Ben Thanh Market, finishes in time for the midday prayer at Dong Du. The mosque does not publish a Jumu’ah time online, so confirm it locally that week.
5. Is it easy to find halal food in District 1?›
Yes. The mosque street, Dong Du, and Nguyen An Ninh beside Ben Thanh Market both have several halal-labelled places within walking distance of the main hotels. Certification status varies, so check each one.
6. Can I golf during Ramadan in Ho Chi Minh City?›
Yes. Ramadan 2027 is expected from about 8 February to 9 March, in Ho Chi Minh City’s dry season. Tee off at first light, finish before the midday heat and break the fast near Dong Du.
