When is Tet 2027, and what actually closes?
Tet (Tết Nguyên Đán) is Vietnam’s Lunar New Year, the country’s biggest family holiday. In 2027 the first day of the new year is Saturday 6 February, and government offices close from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February.
What that means on the ground: Ho Chi Minh City empties out as people travel home, traffic is unusually light, and many small restaurants, cafés and shops shut for the first one to three days. Hotels, resorts, big malls and most tourist sights keep going. On Phu Quoc, the resort strip on the north coast runs much as it does any other week, because the island’s holiday economy is built around this exact period.

Why is the south the right place for a Tet golf trip?
Because February is dry and warm in the south, while the north is still in its cool, often misty winter. Phu Quoc’s settled weather runs roughly December to March, and Ho Chi Minh City’s dry season covers the same weeks, so a Tet trip lands in the best stretch of the year for both.

Which courses are open over Tet in Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh City?
Most of them, but none of the clubs below had published a Tet 2027 schedule when we checked in October 2026. Clubs usually confirm holiday days and rates in January, so treat this table as a guide and let us confirm each course when booking.

On Phu Quoc the picture is simpler. Both courses sit on the north coast near the resorts, and Tet falls in the island’s dry-season peak, Tet week included. What about caddies, tipping and tee times at Tet?
Caddies work through the holiday at the courses that open, but staffing can be thinner on the first days of the new year, so request tee times early rather than turning up. Morning tee times go first, because most visitors want to finish before the midday heat.
Tipping follows the usual rules for each course. What changes is the custom of lì xì: small amounts of lucky money given in red envelopes during the first days of Tet. A modest red envelope for your caddie on top of the normal tip is appreciated, not expected.
How far ahead should you book hotels and flights for Tet 2027?
As soon as your dates are fixed. Tet 2027 lands in the same week as Chinese New Year holidays across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, so regional flights into Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Minh City fill from several markets at once.

The resorts closest to the courses are the first rooms to go, because they suit families as well as golfers. Taiwan and Hong Kong travellers flying straight into Phu Quoc can usually stay up to 30 days without a visa, while Ho Chi Minh City needs the standard e-visa for most of those passports.
What does a 4-day Tet golf plan look like?
Two shapes work well. Pick Phu Quoc for a resort week where the holiday barely touches your plans, or Ho Chi Minh City for more courses and a city that is unusually calm.

How should visiting golfers behave over Tet?
Mostly as normal, with a few small courtesies.
- Greet staff with “Chúc mừng năm mới” (Happy New Year); it always earns a smile.
- Expect families at the clubhouse and some celebration on the first morning of the year.
- Keep the first morning of Tet relaxed: some local guides and drivers prefer not to start very early on Day 1.
- Small red envelopes for caddies are a nice touch; you do not need to give them to everyone you meet.
